That's a heck of a lineup. Welcome back Carlos.

Gwreck
Apr 29 2006 07:22 PM

Wow, the TBS announcers are terrible.

They go through the Mets' defensive lineup. "Nady in right, a big upgrade."

Earth to Don Sutton -- Nady's not Ichiro out there, and he replaced Mike Cameron.

LoDuca comes up: "Looking at the Mets, you might be seeing their MVP right here."

Earth to Chip Caray -- WTF?

They then proceed to tell us that LoDuca's a tremendous defensive upgrade over Piazza, and the fact that the Mets have a better record and ERA shows that he can handle pitchers better.

mind boggling.

I'm getting in-between innings banter here. Great. One of them is going online to look up the hotel the team is staying at in Miami.

Nymr83
Apr 29 2006 07:47 PM

i wonder if they KNOW about that? could you imagine if they didnt and one of them said something that made Keith's comment look tame?

TransMonk
Apr 29 2006 08:07 PM

I HATE when leadoff doubles don't score a run.

No excuse.

Gwreck
Apr 29 2006 08:11 PM

Glavine makes a nice play on Francoeur, throwing him out at first on a swinging bunt. Francoeur nearly takes Delgado's hand off while running down to first as Carlos was awaiting the throw.

Interesting though, as Francoeur was clearly running out of the baseline.

Gwreck

Great diving catch by Floyd saves at least a run, but he might've re-aggravated his injury.

TransMonk
Apr 29 2006 08:29 PM

Through 5:

Mets: no runs, one hit, no errors
ATL: no runs, four hits, no errors

Gwreck
Apr 29 2006 08:33 PM

LoDuca!

TransMonk
Apr 29 2006 08:33 PM

LoDuca gets his first HR of the year.

KABOOM!

1-0 good guys.

Floyd is insane.

Edgy DC
Apr 29 2006 08:49 PM

Let's see him do it with the bat now.

Edgy DC
Apr 29 2006 08:49 PM

Kaboo. Lineout.

Edgy DC
Apr 29 2006 08:50 PM

But Nady gets a two-out singly.

GoKazGoKazGoKazGoKazGo!

And nice looking goatee, man.

Nady makes Mets 27-29 in steals.

Rockin' Doc

Intentional walk to Matsui to bring up the pitcher backfires as Thompson walks Glavine.

Sacks are full for Reyes. We need some insurance. Come on Jose.

I heard that too, I was looking down at a paper or something and looked up expecting to see Wright and was a little puzzled

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:01 PM

It wasn't meant to be. Reyes flies out to left fielder Diaz in foul territory.

Come on Glavine. Shut them down one more inning. Then it's up to the bullpen to hang on to the lead.

Nymr83
Apr 29 2006 09:08 PM

slow IGT tonight...

TBS' MVP LoDuca dribbles a single up the middle.

Tw'an for Delgado. This call to the bullpen brought to you by Seussville.com.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:15 PM

Beltran draws a walk to put Mets at first and second with none out. Delgado with a chance to add some insurance.

Edgy DC
Apr 29 2006 09:17 PM

Sombrero for Delgado.

TransMonk
Apr 29 2006 09:18 PM

Golden colored sombrero for Delgado.

If he has a bad night every 23 games, I'll take it.

Edgy DC

Wright goes lookin'.

Looked low to me.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:25 PM

Floyd flies to chipper on the outfield grass.

Delgado, Wright, and Floyd together fail to even advance a runner. Floyd did barely get the ball out of the infield. You have to tip your hat to Remlinger for a great job of getting out of the inning.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:32 PM

Heilman mowes down LaRoche and Giles, then gets Renteria to ground to Wright at third for a 1-2-3 inning.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:37 PM

Come on offense. Just one stinking run of insurance. That's not too much to ask.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:39 PM

Julio Franco gets a nice hand from the Atlanta fans as he comes to pinch hit with Matsui at first with one out.

Nymr83
Apr 29 2006 09:42 PM

Why did Matsui just stop in the basepaths???? wheres the takeout slide??? at least do that "i'm pretending to duck but really getting in your way" thing...

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:42 PM

Franco grounds with a broken bat ground ball 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.

Hillbilly
Apr 29 2006 09:42 PM

Matsui's hit gives him an 8 game hitting streak. That's every game he's played in this year. Time for Billy to earn his money.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:44 PM

It's in the hands of Wagner now. Chipper, Andruw, and Francoeur due up for the Braves.

Nymr83
Apr 29 2006 09:44 PM

Wright bobbles one charging hard, its ruled a hit...

Hillbilly
Apr 29 2006 09:45 PM

Yuk! Gotta make that play.

GYC
Apr 29 2006 09:45 PM

Here comes the 2-run HR by Andruw.

Nymr83
Apr 29 2006 09:46 PM

a perfect double play ball hit to Reyes, 6-4-3.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:46 PM

Andruw grounds into a 6-4-3 DP. Just one more out to go.

Hillbilly
Apr 29 2006 09:47 PM

Double play. Very, very nice!

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:48 PM

All the other NL East teams lose again.

Division lead to 7 games.

Nice to win 2 games in a row in ATL. Glavine is a stud.

A seven game lead in April is just sick!

old original jb
Apr 29 2006 09:54 PM

A clean, crisp game. The ability to have players like Heilman and Sanchez pitch the late innings, and the difference between Wagner and Looper has been really evident this season. It's nice to have hope in low scoring games.

Apr 29 2006 09:54 PM

I was thinking Chipper hit that ball to Wright on purpose just in hopes he'd bobble it. Worked out anyway :)

Hey, maybe Lo Duca is the Mets MVP

let all Schaeffer voters who did not see the game know that Cliff Floyd made two incredible defensive plays.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 29 2006 09:59 PM

Probably nominate Cliff in the POTG Poll just for his glove work in LF tonight. During his last plate appearance, Cliff had the Braves announcers going on and on about his great defense tonight. Probably not going to garner him any votes in the poll, but certainly worthy of a nomination.

He figured if he kept running he'd run into the tag play and make the DP easier. By stopping he at least made them make two throws.
Not a big deal because it was a simple DP either way but I didn't see it as laziness or brain-lock.

Nymr83
Apr 29 2006 10:58 PM

i think you gotta make the hard slide, if they reach down to tag you theres no throw, if they dont tag you they gotta get out of your way coming in. i wasn't really calling it "brainlock" just wondering why he didnt slide.

Frayed Knot
Apr 29 2006 11:02 PM

Because the man with the ball was between him and the bag. He was still too far away to slide and continuing to run would - or at least Could -have made himself an easy tag target. There would have been no take-out slide because the ball wouldn't have been fed to the bag.
It's a split second decision which made little difference either way.

Nymr83
Apr 29 2006 11:08 PM

it sure didnt seem that way to me but oh well.

It's just their way of bringing the man down. Why appreciate the best hitter in history at a position when you there are so many ways to tear at him like vultures picking at a dead carcass?
