"Clean it up or take it you know you where"

A forum works best when ideas are exchanged and challenged, and participants refrain from ad hominem or personal attacks. Nobody's a fucking moron. Nobody is a retard. Nobody here is batshit. We all mustered the brain-cells to turn our computers and hurdle through the hazard-filled registration process. We will approach each other as equals, and civilly attack ideas and not people

It's bad enough to be using such written 4x4s on public persons such as players and executives of baseball; but it's clearly toxic and destructive to this forum to be doing it to each other. It chases away good and potentially good contributors and lowers the standards for those who stay.

Consulting with all my fellow administrators, we're going to start doing what we've always reserved the right to do — boot threads and individual posts to the Red Light district. We will do this as objectively as possible, and apply the same standard to all posters. Nonetheless, we will use our own judgment on a case-by-case basis and endeavor to consider context and intent. We have always administered with the lightest of hands.

Nobody wants to play cop. Nobody among our administrative team certainly. But none of us want to see the work the administrators and posters of good will gone to waste in a sea of poisoned threads.

And if you have to express yourself in a manner unfit for civil society, do the admins a favor and take it to the Red Light on your own.

We haven't banned anybody yet nor edited content from posts. But we all need to remember that posting here is privilege, and not a right.

I'm as guilty as anyone else here. But I like this idea.

For those of you First Amendment freaks who want to see this noble and high-minded enterprise in action, please visit the Red Light Forum, where my contributions to this thread are being sent.

Also, apparently, my other threads. I don't think this will work, but have your fun. It's easier to vent if I'm cussing all over the place, but now I'll just point out where other people are using vile language to vent (and not having their posts sent anywhere, of course) and I can concentrate on "condescending" rather than "vulgar." "Condescending" takes a little more work, is all, but most people find it slightly less tolerable.

Edgy seems to like that as the final post of this thread, for some strange reason.

Kinda looks like I have no response to it. Every time I read it, if fact, I go, "Well, that sure puts a sock in Sal's stupid mouth, don't it?" and then I remember that I've been herded onto a cattle car and sent to this delightful vacation spot, if anyone is interested in a liberal interpretation of free speech.

It's quite a good idea, I think, and I'd be delighted to indulge in The Red Light Forum, now that we're sending people there against their will. Has KC changed his mind, now that he's not talking to me anymore, about personal threads going there? Will I still get called a--well, I don't want to list all those foul epithets again, so I'll just say "dirty name," and let it go at that, or will such threads get sent over there instantly? Will this post get bounced over there, the absence of foul language notwithstanding, or is post #8 now sancrosanct?

Oh, I'm still interested in baseball, KC. Or was there some particular suggestion you have for what you'd like me to discuss, how you'd like me to say it, particular words I may and may not use, etc?

See ya over in the Red Light Forum real soon, I'm sure!

BS: >>>was there some particular suggestion you have for what you'd like me to discuss, how you'd like me to say it, particular words I may and may not use, etc?<<<

How: In English.
Particular words: English ones.

Its a shame that it has come to the point where this thread was necessary.

Hidden in many of these threads behind all the personal agandas (agendae?), invective, personal attacks and obscenity have been some valid baseball points worth discussing. The one that first caught my eye was (I paraphrase) should a team trade an ageing fan favorite while the player's value was still high. This is probably a discussion that has interested baseball fans since the beginnings of organized baseball.

For some reason, that thread quickly deteriorated, as have subsequent ones on other excellent baseball topics. I don't remember who to point a finger at nor would I if I did. That's not my point.

I recall a quip attributed to Abraham Lincoln. It went something like "No matter how much cats fight, there always seem to be a lot of kittens".
Edgy's right, those fighting cats belong in the the Red Light Forum. But please don't stop posting those cute, cudly kittenish baseball ideas here.

(pre-edit: I reread this post before I hit submit. It seems to have a high senility quotient. But I couldn't think of any other analogy to use. Cut me some slack.)
