Most User/Excel friendly Databases for Baseball Stats

I'm always complaining and making excuses about how I don't have the time to do the kind of statistical manipulations that people regularly use around here to prove their points about baseball.

And it's true; without going into the details of my personal life, I really don't have the time if, as I imagine, people are having to dig up years worth of stats and put them into spreadsheets by hand.

If, however, there were well stratified databases that allow you to sort games, situations, opponents, etc. AND are very easily dump the numbers en masse into EXCEL or STATVIEW or any other number of spreadsheet/statistics/datamanipulation programs, it would be a whole other story.

Does anyone use/know of baseball databases that lend themselves to fast cut and paste work?

I don't have the time either. I make the time.

Family? Career? Will these be your only comforts when all si said and done? Wil they?

For one sweet spreadsheet I'd trade it all.

That was inspiring, but not helpful.

Short answer, no, I do not, but it's a good question.

The key I think is to hack in and find the massive data sheets behind the input and output screens.

Well, I have one, but I'm the only person who gets to look under the hood.

Can't help you out as far as downloading stats goes but, just as far as looking up current stuff, I find the stats section at 'The Hardball Times' infinitely easier to use than say ESPN's.
Much quicker and easier to get at, sort and qualify. Nothing prior to 2004 however.

YSG: from what I understand, you have the ultimate database, but it doesn't count if mere mortals can never get to use it.

Abogdan: Now that's helpful AND inspiring. If I download it, I'll probably make a donation.

Of course, this is really a bad thing, because I will now spend more time on an activity that I spent no time on because I was afraid it would be too time consuming.
