This game had everything a Mets fan could ask for in a game; great pitching, timely hitting, a called shot, and a Mets victory. The Mets won on the strength of 9 strong innings of work from the pitching staff. Steve Trachsel allowed one run on three hits over 6 innings. The lone run coming on a solo home run by Barry Bonds (like that never happens) in the second inning. Duaner Sanchez then came in and pitched two strong innings of scoreless relief before turning the game over to Billy Wagner who sealed the victory with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Jose Reyes and Paul LoDuca combined to get the Mets on the scoreboard early. Reyes opened the game with a single, stole second, then advanced to third on Matheny's errant throw to second. Paul LoDuca singled to drive in the Mets first run. Nady homered in the seventh inning to put the Mets ahead for good. Cliff Floyd, following Dickshots orders in the eighth, added a 2-run homer that splashed down in San Francisco Bay.

To the victors (well, maybe not Zambrano) go the spoils. In celebration of a total team effort, a case of San Francisco's own Anchor Steam for all to share courtesy of the player selected as POTG?

Floyd. Once he crushed that one into the bay I knew the Mets would win.

Trax - one solo homer in six innings. That was a great pitching performance.

Not his fault, but Trax needed at least one more inning to get PotG from me. He's a close second in my Schaeffer points though.

It's a tough call, but Trax came out because Willie was looking for offense in the top of the 7th. Of course, Trax already had a hit in the game, while Valentin is now 2 for 21, so the strategy was questionable at best. But Trax pitched well, had that great defensive play, and got a hit.

This is a game where Schaeffer points tell the story more than a single POTG choice.

Exactly.
