The former Cub is a Doosan Bear.

While a Met, he pitched as if bound for Korea.

He wasn't here long enough for us to take stock of his abilities.

Re: Memories of Robert Stock

Stockpile was called up by the Cublicans as an emergency starter against the Mets at Citi. The Mets hit him hard but the Cubbies stuck with him for four innings as a sacrifice to spare their bullpen as much as they could.

They finished the Cubs off with a 6-3 win. It was their sixth in seven games and third in a row against the Cubs. The Cubs put him through waivers after the game and, though we wouldn't find out for a few days, the Mets put in a claim on him.

The Flushing Nine went into the next day in first place up five and a half games and in a great position to sweep a four-game series from Chicago. But you have to score to do that, and they were instead shut out 2-0 by Kyle Hendricks and three relievers.

That 5 1/2-game lead would turn out to be their high-point on the season, and the Mets, with a .590 winning percentage up until that point, would play .406 baseball the rest of the season, finishing 11 1/2 games out.

It's all probably a total coincidence that Stock knows absolutely nothing about.

Maybe The UMDB can better help me express the apparent effect of the Mets taking the Stock option.
