Retired numbers quiz

The recent talk about Keith and Gary Carter had me thinking about players who have had numbers retired by two teams.

That's not counting Ralph Kiner, who had his number retired by the Pirates and a microphone retired by the Mets, or Jackie Robinson.

Can you guess the players? (Usual rules apply.) Two players have had their numbers retired by three teams!

I met Fisk once. His son was playing for the Champaign-Urbana Bandits in a league with just four teams. He came out to sign autographs and was really nice.

Not sure if Reginald Martinez Jackson should technically count, since it's two different numbers

*face palm* Same, kinda sort of with Ryan as an Angel with #30, and #34 with the Astros & Rangers.

It counts -- we're looking at the player, not the number.

I had a bad experience with Reggie. Not a nice person.

Do managers count, because Casey Stengel is a no-brainer then.

I don't want to diminish Bruce Sutter's work as a Cardinal. He won a World Series with them, and closed out Game Seven, but Sutter the Cub was a force of nature. It was with them that he won the Cy Young Award. He didn't even flee as a free agent, but was traded for Leon Durham plus.

Good call! The Cubs have not retired many numbers despite 100-plus years of history. Ron Santo's number 10, Ernie Banks' number 14, Ryne Sandberg's number 23, Billy Williams' number 26, and the number 31, shared by Fergie Jenkins and Greg Maddux.

Meanwhile, Lee Smith and Gabby Hartnett are in the Hall as Cubs. Dawson is in the Hall as an Expo, but you can make a case for Cub honors.

Re: Retired numbers quiz

Before 2020 there were rumblings about the potential of a Smith number retirement.

Maybe Sutter going in as a RedBird made things moot about retiring #42 in his honor.

Re: Retired numbers quiz

Surface level Google search is coming up empty when it comes to anything of a current relationship with Sutter and the Cubs.

No pieces on a frosty relationship like Piazza and the Dodgers, but conversely no images or articles of him back at Wrigley for any kind of ceremony, or any Cub alumni related function. Hmmmm

Hack Wilson, man!

I mean, I know he probably only wore a number a few years, but there's your first Cub legend of the number-wearing era.
