I remember when they were both MFY prospects and writers were wondering if they had kept the wrong one (Bernie) when they traded Gerald.

RIP

Didn't have much left, on offense or defense, but he fell into the lineup when Carlos Beltran and Mike Cameron smashed into each other in San Diego. Cliff Floyd got hurt doing a belly flop later in the same game.

Mostly a fourth outfielder, and sometimes fifth, but he had his best years with Atlanta, because of course he did.

It goes without saying that 55 is too young. Here's to The Cancer Moonshot doing some good.

I remember him most as a Brewer and a Brave. RIP

Many Yanqui fans of that era were Positive they had kept the wrong one. Some of that was almost certainly based on the pre-Moneyball

assumptions that the more outwardly athletic Gerald was sure to be the better option going forward. Doesn't always work that way.

Gerald also made a great first impression in 1992.

My biggest memory of Gerald Williams is of him engaging in fisticuffs with fellow future Met Pedro Martinez.

Most bench-clearing brawls are just posturing, but Ice got some serious punches in.

A lot of Mets in that show: Ice, Miguel Cairo, Pedro, Daubach, Robo Hernandez.

That's just the principal actors.

G. Williams doubled to start the eleventh off K. Rogers and scored the deciding run on the final ball four, but I'm willing to forget about that for now.

Mike Cameron fondly remembers his teammate.

“He got me through my first year in New York. He was always so positive. I struggled the first half of that season, but he stayed with me and never let me get frustrated. He was a special guy. He would take care of you as a teammate and give you good advice where to go after a game or where not to go. It's hard to go out and just perform without a support system and he was one of those guys who provided it.”
