CPF 2022 WORLD SERIES OF SCRABBLE

Johnny Lunchbucket
Jan 18 2022 08:23 AM

Sign up today!

The CPF Scrabble Task Force has named isc.ro the official game board provider and scorekeeper.

Participants will need to sign up for an account on isc.ro -- all you need is email address, no ads, no spam. I don;t think there's an app but you can play on your phone, although it's kinda funky.

Once we've all signed up, we'll have a random drawing for seeding with a double elimination format.

The important thing to know about this format is that each game has to be played to completion in one session. The added bonus is the site will time your game. The Task Force has determined that 10 minutes is sufficient (that's 10 minutes per player per game, although if the participants agree 15 or 20 is okay).

Your settings should be: Game Time: 10

Dictionary: TWL American

Challenge: DOUBLE

That means all combos are legal to play and it's on your opponent to challenge words he doesn't feel are cromulent. Challenging a legal word results in a loss of turn; as do correct challenges to your opponent.

Screen capture all games for dissection here.

Yes you lose even if you're ahead in the score. When you're time expires you get a 1 minute extension and a 10-point penalty.

I am "roadblock" on there, you can "buddy" me and you'll know when I'm on the site

Yes. Realistically you can play a game in 10 or 15 minutes tops but you'll have to coordinate with your opponent.

Edit: You can agree to "adjourn" a game if you have to and resume when you're both back online. It's a little old school html over there but fool around with it and learn.

Also I'd enourage you all to play a few games first so you're familiar with how it works. I started playing during the pandemic and have since played 2,630 times, winning a full 42% of them so watch your asses

Ten minutes each. As in chess, your clock only ticks down when it's your turn.

When I used to play via this app I used to set it to 25 total (12:30 each) IIRC and it was plenty of time.

Long, drawn out games suck.

Tournament SCRABBLE is, I believe, 25 minutes each side which, to me, is interminable and, in an on-line game, leaves the door wide open

for a player to look up words and/or consult various anagramming programs and the like.

The quicker the better IMO, especially when trying to match up time slots with your opponents.

Re: CPF 2022 WORLD SERIES OF SCRABBLE

The "ranking" comes with an expectation of results for many. As you guys start off you'll likely find only weak-ass challengers and those intent on pumping up their scores. In accepting games, pay attention to the number alongside. 3, 5, 10, 20 -- these are minutes.

I almost exclusively challenge up and feel I can put up a fair fight when the game time is longer than 5 minutes. Less than that, I need to get lucky.

( ex hi XXXXX 0)

After adjudication the game XXXXX vs Kong76 ends with no rating adjustment, XXXXX was ahead. See help adjudication.

Nets basketball player Wendell Ladner died in a plane crash.

Remembering him fondly, his coach said at the funeral, "Wendell didn't know the meaning of the word fear. He didn't know the meaning of a lot of other words, either".

I don't win much and sometimes get smoked but getting used to the rush and

The random nutjobs get better tiles than I do most games. Just saying. Today

one guy quit the game as it was winding down just as I was playing a go ahead

triple word score and that was frustrating.
