Exactly. When you hold your arm in front of you do you get the feeling that you're behind the eight ball, or have you shown it to a doctor?

Signs of bursitis are both swelling and redness.

I had that same thing a couple years ago - right elbow. I think it was the aftermath of banging it on something but not sure.

Finally got it looked at by a clinic. Their advice was to put a sleeve on it so that the compression would ease it down.

I promptly lost the sleeve after about two or three uses ... after which the lump went away as quickly and mysteriously as it showed up.

Torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder. Schedule right now is for me to be yelling in a simulated game by late summer and, if needed, coming back to the ballpark to root in actual games in September.

Also, physical therapy. And, as much as it hurts to admit it, at age 57, I've probably benched my last press.

I recked my rotator cuff pitching Cheetos batting practice several years ago. I just didn't do that again for a long time, like a year, and it got better. There were very few activities I found that brought the same kind of discomfort as throwing things.

Edgy, as I am learning with each passing year, the years can be cruel. Once I passed 60, it seems there is always some annoying ache or pain somewhere. It is interesting to see what hurts at the start of each day.

I am just thankful to keep having birthdays, as each day is a blessing.

I pitched batting practice for Lefty Jr's little league team back in the day since I had enough control that I didn't hit anybody's kid. I came home exhausted and the missus said 'How many pitches did you throw? I had no idea but I knew it was a lot. So the next practice she counted, and it was 215. Not at 95 miles an hour, of course, but enough that I had trouble combing my hair in the morning. And I went out and did it the next weekend. Fortunately, that's a long way in the rear view mirror.

Spent much of last Sunday squatting-- digging up and moving paving stones and edgers in the yard. No pain beyond that squatting can be uncomfortable

Woke up Monday and my right knee, to use the proper medical term, was fucked. Very stiff, swollen and kinda uncomfortable from the kneecap to the lower thigh, all in front. Compressed, rested, drugged, iced all week but hasn't made a big difference yet.

I think I may have suffered a painless strain or mild ACL tear.

Surgeon basically said my shoulder/arm is fully healed, from an x-ray bone standpoint. They had to basically move my bicep to get at it though, so that was basically shot, plus all the atrophy stuff)

(this is from a month ago, not fully healed yet)

Muscle wise, much less. I've got maybe 90% range of motion back, but strength is lacking. simply things like pushing the metal buckle of the seatbeat into the thingy, pumping a shampoo bottle, reaching up to hit the garage door opener..all tough. Just this past week I finally graduated to the the stage where I can hold open a screen door with my right arm enough so that I can walk through it.

Got a solid 6 inch....scar on my arm. Doc when he saw the initial scans said "About an hour" and ended up being out for almost three. one of the tech's in the OR was wearing a Lindor ID card holder thingy. One of the last things I said while the anestesia kicking in was 'Maybe when I wake up the lockout will be over". surreal experience, that. getting knocked out and then just *snap* it's three hours later, and then three hours after that I was home.

Went for a bike ride during lunch on Friday 2/11, was a nice day, figured I'd get some exercise in. crested a hill because nothing is flat here, guess I was going at a reasonable clip, swerved around a stick or something, brushed the curb, cursed, and tumbled onto the sidewalk. Hit on my right shoulder and rolled, halfway, catching myself with my left hand. Probably should've tried to get more of a roll going.. Sat up, realized my arm wasn't really responding, picked up my phone and called 911 and then my wife to pick up my daughter from school. Ambulance came a bit later and about 24 hours later I was 'repaired'. Proximal humerus fracture.

I had an inflamed tendon in my ankle from doing yard work a few weeks ago. (turned it on a hill)

I finally went to the foot doctor and he prescribed ice and pain rub and come back in two weeks.

I did, it still hurt and he gave me a cortisone injection.

He knew I was a Diabetic, but didn't warn me of the side effects.

My blood sugar jumped up to over four times normal.

I called my Endocrinologist and she told me I have to go on Insulin (along with my usual medications) until my sugar level gets back to normal.

My ankle is feeling better, but he damn near killed me.

Bottom line, ask about side effects when you take cortisone, Johnny.

will do thx for the advice. I don't think I have a diabetic condition.

By "painless" I meant, nothing catastrophic happened that would indicate I had had an injury, I just woke up with a very stiff knee.

I've had both knees scoped before, so I know the whole knee injury treatment procedure. If you don't need immediate surgery (and I would guess I don't-- I think I probably "stretched" my ACL too much), or post-surgery, then it's RICE, then physical therapy, which is usually gentle bike riding, then strengthening the thighs and calves. I tried a short bike ride today 1.5 miles there and back to the store, but it didn't go great for the knee

is it beer? is your knee filled with beer? This is what they mean by having a "hollow leg" right?

I apparently have a hot shit orthopedist, who i'm still asking questions to as he's walking me to the receptionist. He must see like 500 patients a day at that rate. His response when I asked him if it's okay for me to get MRIs was "yeah, it'll be a little fuzzy in your shoulder BUT you're getting all your MRIs here now, I'm your doctor"

I think this is why there are so many urgent care places now right? it's like you're supposed to see one of them before bothering the "real" doctors.

My knee is better, but not quite there yet.

I didn't get the MRI, thanks mostly to someone's screw up--the insurance company blames the lab, and vice-versa-- over the question of whether I needed pre-authorizarion ,(I don't) but the lab canceled on me because they thought I did, and by the time they straitened it out, the knee pain went away, but it remains a little wonky, so I rescheduled it for a week from Monday.

I should say, the shit experience of Tuesday Night Mets this past week turned into a little setback when instead of sitting on the 7 train at Junction Blvd., unsure if and when the train would ever move -- someone got run over at Grand Central, and two couples from Austin sitting next to and opposite me are carrying on a convo, in their Astros gear, about how great it is to visit NYC and watch their club kick Met ass, instead of committing 4 barehand murders, I walked like 30blocks to Roosevelt and caught my transfer.

Re: Bones heal, chicks dig scars, pain is temporary, glory is forever — CPF Injuries 2022

I joined a mushball league a few weeks ago. We had one practice that I went to. Caught a few balls, swung a bat a few times - hitting some decent line drives but no bombs - and managed to hold back vomit every time I saw the word trump on the ball. Apparently that's the manufacturer. Ugh. Disgusting really. But as long as I'm actively trying to strike it with a metal stick I figure I can work through it.

Anyways, later that week I'm running and notice my knee hurting. On the inside right below the joint. Pain doesn't go away after a few days and a few runs, so I go see the orthopedist. I figure maybe I strained a ligament somehow by wearing bad shoes… no clue really.

Anyways, quick description of the pain and a point to where it hurts, with an X-ray for good measure. Easy peasy lemon squeezy diagnosis. Torn meniscus. Twisting and such did it. Go get an MRI to confirm.

It does. Teensy radial tear. 4-6 weeks on the shelf for me. Should heal fine with proper rest and physical therapy. Probably won't ruin it by going hiking in the Pacific Northwest in 2 weeks with the fam. Biking good, running not so much. Didn't even bother to ask about swinging a bat.

I think I remember on one swing I maybe felt a light twang but I'm not really even sure. It didn't register at the time like “ow, ya done fucked yourself up” more so “hey it's been two years since you swung a bat in anger”

So yeah, I dropped out of mushball. Happily I never paid the league fee.

Hoping to start running in 6 weeks. I'm gonna aim for the over, just so I don't get cranky. Plus I figure the hiking will effectively act as an unofficial ‘setback' in my recovery.

Doc says it shouldn't do damage as long as I'm not stupid - my words not hers - but will all just come down to pain tolerance. I can deal with that.

Otherwise my knee looks great for the amount of running I do and my size. Healthy cartilage and good structure, though clear evidence of old battles with runners knee. So presuming I heal as expected, no surgery and no anticipated long term effects. Here's hoping.

Looking forward to running again sometime in mid August. Sigh.

All things considered it could have been much worse news. So I'm happy about that.

The only kicker is that I was just remarking on Thursday that At least I'm not missing out on Tuesday lunchtime pickup volleyball seeing as how that got disbanded when Covid hit. Guess what email I have sitting in my inbox when I get back from the docs on Friday…? Sigh.

I have a ceramic top stove. We also have a "burner cover" - a piece of counter-type material that I use to cover it when not in use, to give me a bit more prep surface.

I left a burner on "low" at the time that we sat down to eat dinner. After dinner, while cleaning up, I ran my hand over the burner to see if it was cool enough to put the burner cover back on, only to realize that it was in fact still on. I essentially brushed my right hand over a hot ceramic burner. I got a handful of second degree burns, one of which has turned into a blister on my palm about the size of a dime. Most of the other spots that would have blistered did not, due to the silver compound they put on me at urgent care.

This last one will have to stay covered a bit longer, I suspect.

Could have been much worse. At the time it happened, I felt for a good 90 minutes that my hand continued to be on fire. It's no fun.

I was still able to play my gig Saturday night (this was on my strumming hand, not my fret hand), and my weekend was otherwise minimally impacted.

Re: Bones heal, chicks dig scars, pain is temporary, glory is forever — CPF Injuries 2022

So without getting into too much detail, my brain has been on the DL since this summer.

It started back in June when I suddenly felt like a fog lifted, and my mind was incredibily active, it was like I was seeing things and concentrating on them at once, talking a lot and finding everything profound and funny. I felt super alert and witty & thought I might be turning into Jerry Seinfeld. That turned out to be a kind of mania that required I take time out from work to get addressed with medication. It turned around pretty quick and I overestimated the speed with which I could return to work, but by the time I did it had morphed into a really deep depression and I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (It's in the family but I never thought it would get me). So my work return lasted less than 2 weeks. From there I checked into a hospital where I spent 10 days and got back on Tuesday, re-medicated and enrolled in specialized after care at their bipolar clinic. That's going to take several weeks due to a lack of mental health resources so I'll be away from work till December probably.

The good news is the worst of the depression came and went and more help is on the way. Also I missed the end of the Braves series and all of the San Diego one. Not worrying about the job for now but short term disability can get me there financially, just hoping I'll be ready by then. Wasted a pretty good Metbeard as I was in the kind of hospital where they don't allow razors or shoelaces. Lot of characters there.

I was laying low on all social media because I pretty much had Trump Derangement Syndrome and here because I was trying to limit the damage of saying or doing dumb things and keeping the benefit cops off my ass but I missed you guys and known most of you for 20 years and realized a total communication shutdown wasn't doing me any good. I'm grateful to have reached out to the few of you I've been in contact with and need to get used to talking though shit so my dms are open!

I tend to agree with Seoie above. It depends on what kind of therapy one is doing and what kind of shit one is confronting, but therapy really can be awesome. Heck, it should be awesome. The person-to-person therapy anyhow.

The therapy that involves those first couple of weeks of pharmacological intervention, though, can be rough, on the patient and on his or her family, until the right dosage levels are established. So I hope you, Mr. Lunchables, are mostly on that back side of that.

Thirded.

It's good to talk about it. I know someone who kind of took the same journey. Amazing highs and crushing lows. But when they knew what it was, got support and dealt with it, they came out better at the other end.

Thanks for being open. And be well.

Oh my gosh I missed you!!!

I've been stalking your Facebook page; hope don't mind!

Take good care of yourself and do what your doctor says; mental health is a serious issue and I'm a patient too.

No stigmas around here!

Re: Bones heal, chicks dig scars, pain is temporary, glory is forever — CPF Injuries 2022

I've had to get stitches on my noggin and yes it's a amazing the amount

of blood since really there's so little flesh under the skin before you hit solid

rock. (well, in my case it's rock)

So I asked someone, "Why does the scalp bleed so much?"

They said, "The scalp has a rich vascular supply. The blood vessels traverse the

connective tissue layer, which receives vascular contribution from the internal

and external carotid arteries. The blood vessels anastomose freely in the scalp."

And I said, "Ah, but of course. Thanks."

Mend quickly!!

This is the first day in about a week I'm without neck, back and hip pain.

Side note... we were without health insurance from 8/1 to 10/31. Out-of-

pocket expense for my monthly middle-age-maintenance prescriptions was

close to $150. Today, $3.83!

Just wanted to post something un-gloomy. I hope everyone is doing well!!

Indeed! I successfully did my best to stay away from emergency rooms,

My hubby (when he retired at the end of 2021) went three months without Medicare. Talk about an eff-up.

Worse of all, he had to pay for it 😡. Try reasoning with Social Security lololololololololololol
