He's a FA after this season. RHP. They gave up good prospects for one-year of control but he's a SP and fits nicely.

BASSIT HOUNDS

Bassit is a top 10 Cy Young vote recipient in the AL each of the past two seasons. A baseball to the face shortened his All-Star season last year.

Wow. I thought we'd have to give up JD, Dom, or McNeil to get someone like that.

Right, I'm sure there will be some giving-up-prospect grumblings but this

seems like a steal of sorts. Time will tell...

He's a FA next year, but I'm good with this. It rounds out the rotation nicely. It's an all right-handed rotation, though, which isn't optimal.

Nice pick up. Should solidify the rotation, assuming they can remain healthy.

Strong add, for 2 prospects I never heard of (granted, I don't follow the prospects all that carefully).

I like Carrasco/Megill/Peterson competing for the #5 slot than the 4/5 slots, so, there you go.

It could be the strongest rotation in the game, but each pitcher has question marks:

Scherzer, 38 and burned out in the playoffs

DeGrom, who knows how healthy he is.

Walker, suddenly lost effectiveness when they cracked down on sticky stuff.

Carrasco, was hurt most of the time and pretty awful when he did pitch.

Even Bassitt was hit in the face by a batted ball last year and only threw two innings after.

Sooooooo, there's a lot of finger crossing going on here.

Ginn was a #2 pick in 2020 from Mississippi State. Most of his final year in college and his first year as a pro were spent Tommy Johnning, but the Mets knew that when they picked him and he was a strategic pick, having been a first rounder out of high school for the Dodgers. They gave him double what his slot assignment was, knowing that he wasn't going to pitch his first year anyhow due to the lockdown.

He had a strong debut at St. Lucie and Brooklyn in 2021, and was mostly projected in the #6-9 range in the Mets prospect rankings, but considering his pedigree and his healthy return, his stock was climbing. With news that Matt Allan's rehab would most likely erase his 2022, Ginn was starting to look like the prize among Mets pitching prospects. The word "untouchable" even popped up once or twice, for whatever that's worth. (Not much, as it turns out.)

Adam "Makes Me Want To" Oller is much closer to the big leagues, having split last season between Bingo and Syracuse. He's an older player who a Rule V grab who could make the A's out of camp but has some wildness issues. He was on the Mets 40-man roster.

I'm not specifically knocking the trade, but the A's got some value here.

Re: It's All About That Bass-Itt

Ginn is a fair price for one year of a pitcher who has excellent peripherals but rarely goes 6.

Now if you have a rotation full of injury risks and guys who won't give you innings, the pen had better be STOCKED. Happily there are guys still available in that regard. I'd love to see a reunion with Collin McHugh.

Like Jon Matlack long ago, Chric Bassitt took a line drive off of his the face last year.
