Ralph Terry, who finished his career with the 1966 and 1967 Mets, has died at 86. A 23-game winner in 1962 for the team that won the World Series that year. Gave up Mazeroski's HR in 1960.

Also the World Series MVP in 1962.

In my imaginary United States Cup bracket tournament of teams representing their states, the mid-century squad of Oklahomans would be formidable every year, with the Mantle brothers, Terry, Cal McLish, Alvin Dark, Allie Reynolds, and Jim Beauchamp, among others.

Heck, they might've gotten even better after Mantle's retirement, with Johnny Bench and Willie Stargell taking over.

Bob Murphy calling the games…

Ralph's true Met legacy: he taught Tug McGraw the screwball.

He is remembered for the Mazeroski homer, but Terry lost another game in that Series, too.

RIP

Ralph Terry was the 17th oldest living Met. With his death, Cliff Cook moves into the Top Twenty and Jack Fisher moves into the Top Forty.

At my first little league meeting ever in the sixties the speaker was Ralph Terry 1967-68 I believe.

He had that cool low-number common 1967 Topps where he looks like they

plucked his photo from a NASA brochure.
