So supposedly the rule concerning Covid was that the unvaccinated testing positive required a 10 day IL stay while the Vax crowd required merely two negative tests.

And yet Brandon hasn't been out that long (has he?) so maybe our assumption about his Vax status wasn't accurate.

Colin fucking Holderman?

David Peterson pitched six scoreless innings for Syracuse the other night, and has been successful against major league hitters this year. He got sent down to make room for Walker in the rotation.

With Megill out they will need another starter.

Bringing up Holderman, who has been relieving, is a head scratcher.

That Mets reporter didn't write anything about calling up Colin Holderman, or how characteristic fucking is to him.

Colin Holderman pitched in relief yesterday afternoon, something that David Peterson would have obviously been a very poor candidate for, having started and gone six innings on Friday night. Most any pitcher rest policy would make him ineligible to appear before Tuesday at the earliest, or more typically, Wednesday.

lol...I was wondering why the Mets called up 2 pitchers yesterday...smart move, day game Wednesday and off day on Thursday, so bullpen got a little breather so call him up for Friday to serve the suspension and then send him back down once he got his token 1 day on the roster...without the DH, that might have been a little riskier with McNeil being a little banged up on Wednesday, but it's not like they really would have needed pinch hitters much with the DH

There are circumstances where you don't know if you'll have a roster spot available or not. In such circumstances (three men on baby watch, for instance), you might bring in a player while being unsure about whether you're going to activate him.

Or, sometimes, you simply get a guy in town even though he won't be activated for a day or two, perhaps to catch the team charter to Houston.

Re: The 2022 Active Roster (and eventual transactions)

According to NBC Sports,

New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill will be out until at least mid-August, with the team moving him to the 60-day injured list.

The 26-year-old right-hander was put on the 15-day IL on June 17 because of a strained right shoulder, joining aces Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer. The Mets said at the time Megill would not throw for four weeks.

Earlier in the season, Megill missed four weeks with right biceps tendinitis and returned June 10. He is 4-2 with a 5.01 ERA in nine starts this year.

New York made the 40-man roster move to open a spot for infielder Kramer Robertson, who was claimed off waivers from Atlanta and optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. New York also activated right-hander Colin Holderman from the injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse.

I'm getting the idea that Escobar's current soreness makes him a lousy alternative at shortstop, so they specifically want someone who can do more than fake it there.

If they were to launch a prospect, I'd think that Vientos is still ahead of Baty, though perhaps less so than he was six months ago.

I feel strongly that we'll see Alvarez in September. Right now, with McCann as the #1, they need someone to probably of 30% or more of the starts, so "a few at bats and work on the side/in the bullpen with the pitchers" probably isn't something they feel they can afford to devote a roster slot to just yet.

Re: The 2022 Active Roster (and eventual transactions)

Is that locked in, or can they change it when needed during the month? I suppose some players will be sent home when the minor league seasons end and others will be on a taxi squad?

Re: The 2022 Active Roster (and eventual transactions)

Found this on CBS.com:

The Triple-A regular season was originally scheduled to run from Tuesday, April 5 to Wednesday Sept. 21 this year. That is six days after MLB Opening Day to a week and a half before the end of the MLB season. The Triple-A season will still begin on April 5, though it will now end a week later, four days before the end of the MLB regular season.

Under the old Sept. roster expansion rules (up to 40 players on the active roster) teams could simply call up any Triple-A players they wanted to have available when the Triple-A season ended. With the new Sept. roster expansion rules (only one additional hitter and pitcher), all those Triple-A players who could be called up at some point don't really have anywhere to go to stay sharp. Expanding the Triple-A season allows them to stay game ready deeper into the season.

Re: The 2022 Active Roster (and eventual transactions)

When Guillorme is deemed healthy, a 28-man roster move will have to be made. Same for Carrasco (and Megill and Drew Smith).

Well, Guillorme would displace Marrero, I assume.

Givens to the IL (COVID, apparently), Nogosek activated.

Also, Marrero passed through waivers and was outrighted to the Cuse.

Re: The 2022 Active Roster (and eventual transactions)

I wonder if the Mets would be better served with Dom on the roster rather Vientos. Dom is hot in Syracuse and is a good fielder so he could give Pete a needed half-day off. I know that Dom is a lefty and Vientos is a righty so it impacts the bench but I'd like to see Pete semi-chill for a day or two without impacting the defense.

Re: The 2022 Active Roster (and eventual transactions)

I don't disagree that Pete could use a day off (or some half-days at DH) but does adding an extra lefty bat really help? Would you play Smith over Vogelbach? Or over Ruf against a lefty?

I could also see an argument that Terrence Gore isn't really needed.

Gore isn't going anywhere (except for 2d base). I'm not advocating for this move as far as the bench goes, in fact, it's the wrong move for the bench, but I think it's the right move for Pete.

Re: The 2022 Active Roster (and eventual transactions)

From SNY

Pitchers Max Scherzer and Tylor Megill were reinstated from the injured list on Monday. Scherzer will start Monday's game against the Brewers, Megill will be a bullpen addition.

In corresponding moves the Mets optioned pitchers Stephen Nogosek and Alex Claudio to Triple-A Syracuse.

Megill is on the unannounced IL (you know) so he can return whenever. This feels like they wanted to give Givens a game so they made something up. Good.
