Re: IGT 04/26 - NYM @ STL

Jake Holmes was an opening act for the Jimmy Page era Yardbirds. One night, Holmes plays his "Dazed and Confused" before a Yardbirds concert. Page is instantly fascinated by Holmes's song, and that descending bass line. Later that night, Page goes to some Greenwich Village record store, where he buys Holmes's album. The Yarbirds then cover the song, steal it, really, as Holmes isn't credited. The song carries over to Page's next band, where it becomes a staple of Led Zeppelin's live set.and one of its biggest hits.

I prefer the Aerosmith version of Train Kept a Rollin personally. For old covers, though, have a bit of this. I'm thinking of adding this to my own set list.

OE: Realized after the fact that I conflated the Yardbirds and the Animals there. Don't care, though, you should listen to that anyway because it's great.

Just as I'm thinking, "All these crossups make Knizner look like he's never caught before," Todd Zeile says, "All these crossups make Knizner look like he's never caught before."

He's playing, like, ... aggressively good. There seems to be some chip-on-the-shoulder in his game.

Packy Naughton, alum of my son's school, takes the mound. Not sure why he's named after a liquor store.

Gary made the same reference when he started warming up, possibly in observance of Naughton's Boston roots.

One thing I credit Tony Larussa for: When one of his players would hit a batter up high, nobody had to charge the mound, and nobody had to warn the benches, because Tony would go out on the mound and scream at his player.

I read Buzz Bissinger's mostly bad book on LaRussa and there was an interesting section where one of the Cardinals got hit so LaRussa reviewed their lineup to find an equivalent player and did the same.

iow, a typical MLB game in the 21st century with a running time [3:32] which is becoming all too typical [nearly 1 game in 7 this season has run north of 3:30 -- 9-inning games only]

And this one had all of 3 runs and 11 hits combined.
