Can't get Jankowski into the lineup.

Can't get Guillorme out.

No, it's more like "he's resting it for a few weeks" which turns into "it'll get better in the offseason" which turns into "a slow start to spring training but we're taking it easy" which turns into "surgery in May 2023 and hopefully we'll see him in February."

Re: IGT 5/12/2022: NYM@WSH — What a Day for a Day Win

I am hopeful Taijuan can have a decent outing today.

It is far too early into the season to have him and Megill become ineffective.

Pat Mazeika may be back up in short order.

If they're going to walk the ballpark, you gotta cash in, especially early. Nice hit by Canha in a big spot. 2-0 good guys.

Re: IGT 5/12/2022: NYM@WSH — What a Day for a Day Win

Kinda wish Buck would figure out if McNeil belongs at the top of the lineup, or Marte does, and stick with it. I don't get the rationale for all this constant flipflopping.

Good top of 1

No way does this team lose after jumping out to a multiple run lead.

... oh, wait

Buck is bunting w/Nido almost every time in potential GiDP situations.

Probably over-doing it IMHO

Yeah, but we're also over-doing grounding into double-plays.

I just don't like the idea of preemptively ordering the Sac B every time there's someone on 1st

Now right after I posted that he took the bunt off (and Nido eventually K'd) so at least he's not married to it.

Re: IGT 5/12/2022: NYM@WSH — What a Day for a Day Win

Walker looking pretty uncomfortable, but he's getting outs on not a lot of pitches. Wearing a heating pad between innings, so I wouldn't expect a long outing here.

No doubt, but I don't think a pre-emptive/every time policy is going on.

A good general principle is to take what you're given — bunt when the fielders are back, and swing when they're in. That's overbroad (and over-pre-emptive), but it works terrifically, especially now that pitchers aren't hitting. Double plays are the worst.

I think he's close to that with Nido.

Not a huge sample size yet, but a bit too often and seemingly automatic for my taste.

Soto on 2nd, grounder to Guillorme (3B),

Soto goes anyway and is caught in rundown.

Batter (Bell) advances to 2nd while thrown trying to get him goes into RF

He gets up and heads to 3rd but Marte was backing up and his throw to 3B nailed Bell by about 35 feet

I suspect they were checking the tape searching for evidence that any one of the half-dozen Mets near 3rd Might have been possibly maybe been in the way of Either runner.

And I think you know I (and you) stand on those kinds of preemptive search attempts.

another TCOB kinda win.

It seemed like we hardly ever had a TCOB Win* last season.

*-Games in which you do enough to beat the other team convincingly but not overwhelmingly. You may make a few mistakes but on balance the quality of your play was better than the opponents to the point at which, after 9 innings, a winning outcome, without a lot of sweat or squirts, is the "right" result.

What a day for day win!

Watching Nationals just self-destroy

And I'm digging my day win!

Chowing down on my chili and soy

And even if we didn't whoop their hide

A win's a win, and that's a win for our side

And even if Soto got a late homerun

My mind's on Kelenic and Justin Dunn!

This one was even stranger as it involved two separate plays/throws to 3rd, one that came from close range and one that came from RF.

With the first runner, now out, just sitting there petulantly in baseline blocking the second runner.

And the two tagouts at third being made by the pitcher and the shortstop.

Having seen the "double play" I feel that the only time I've seen that before is when playing my son at MLB The Show. I'm terrible with the baserunning controls.
