Royal Witt

Bobby Witt, Jr. — probably the top prospect in the game, and a rare (though certainly not unheard of) legacy player who hits for a living despite coming from a pitcher's gene pool — made the Royals team out of camp. It was an unsurprising surprise in a sense, and perhaps the beginning of a new era in which teams no longer have a motivation to abbreviate their top prospects' rookie years by seven or eight weeks in order to retain control years down the road.

Witt is in the Gregg Jefferies/Wilmer Flores mold of guys who played shortstop through most of their minor league careers before transitioning to a less demanding position on the verge of the bigs. It usually isn't clear whether a shortstop prospect's bat will be productive enough at another position, but Witt murdered AA and AAA pitching last year at 21, despite having previously only played 37 minor league games thanks to COVID.

Big swinger, and your early favorite for Rookie of the Year.

And no, I don't know why it looks like he has an umbrella in his pocket.

Re: Royal Witt

Witt Jr reminds of Jefferies but with more power.

Spencer Torkelson & Julio Rodriguez are rookies starting on the MLB level getting a fair shake with service time.
