Down on the Farm - St. Lucie

Got to see the St. Lucie Mets play the Palm Beach Cardinals in Jupiter last night! Alex Ramirez is the name I most recognized. He's hitting .358. Carlos Dominguez hit a two-run homer. Mike Vasil pitched and did well in six innings.

Not a lot of fans for Florida Sate League games. The 932 listed must include season tickets because suspect there were 300 or less in the stands.

Mets are off to a good start, in first place at 15-7.

A fun night with my Dad at the park.

Went to Friday night's game, and the St. Lucie team won again. Alex Ramirez, who I think was in some of the top 100 prospect lists, looks like the real deal. Would not be surprised to see him bumped up to Coney Island before too long.

How did Calvin Ziegler look?

He started and struck out 4 (but also walked 4) in his start.

Was his stuff impressive?

Inquiring minds (and his adopted papa) want to know.

I thought Ziegler looked good! Only gave up two hits. I was a little surprised they pulled him after four. Even more surprised that Carson Seymour pitched all five innings after that.

Shervyen Newton looks to be a solid player, too. Good at the plate and the field, too.

We sat two rows behind the Mets dugout. It's funny, so quiet you can hear the players chatting. Big topic: Where to get their hair cut, and which player on the team is good at cutting hair. One was volunteering -- and I didn't hear any takers.

Mets seemed to he wearing their orange batting practice jerseys during both games as the road uniforms. Very plain, with a too-small Mr. Met (With sunglasses).

Must have been the dreaded pitch count limit for Ziegler. He also walked four.

Thanks.
