This is turning to resemble the Matz game from the other day, got to the starter early but could have done more. And then not only failed to tack on (only 3 hits) but let him get his pitch count back in order despite going 30+ in inning #1

Paul Goldschmidt is a monumental pain in the rosy red rectum. (from the UMDB) He has played 70 games against the Mets, with an over .300 BA, 275 AB, 15 or 16 HR and a gazillion RBI. Goldschmidt's career OPS vs the Mets is only a shade higher than his overall OPS. It's not like the Mets are missing some secret formula.

it wasn't really a great throw (I think it three hopped in there) but it was the smart throw and an accurate one from a tough throwing position which wound up stealing an out.

Goldy came up around the same time as Ike Davis, and for a short time, looked like the lesser player. Twelve years later, he's been a constant All-Star/MVP candidate, and Ike is a trivia question. McNeil, on the other hand, is a gift that keeps giving.

Maybe it did rain? The reason I remember the weather that day was because we had work softball game that evening under dark skies and intense heat and humidity but we got the game off. I was drenched ... with sweat, as I hustled from the game downtown to Big Shea

Weird and unexpected fact: Brendan Donovan of the Cardinals is the first person named Donovan to be stored in the Ultimate Mets Database. That means that no Mets player, coach, farmhand, or opponent ever had the last name of "Donovan". I had thought that it was a pretty common name, but perhaps not! It took 60 years for the Mets to encounter only one Donovan.
