In NL East action this week * Phils & Braves -- currently dead even in 2nd place at 19-22, 8 games out -- hook up for three in Atlanta to start the week. Wheeler and the Phightins jumped out early and are currently cruising with a 7-1 lead in the 7th * Nats are hosting the Dodgers and are wishing they weren't. 10-0 LAD in the 8th * Marlins have a two game set with Tampa Bay on Tuesday & Wednesday

Two more HRs from Judge, now 17 in just over a 1/4 season (43 games). But the Yanx lose at home to Bal'mer, their 3rd straight loss after the DH sweep vs CHW yesterday.

Braves & Phils playing the slowest 4-3 game ever. Three hours in and still in top 7. Philly starter Kyle Gibson was the main culprit: slow worker, deep counts, and about 50 attempted pickoff throws to 1st. And it looks like we'll see him Sunday night. Oh joy! Marlins got shutout by Tampa Nats getting another ass-whooping by LAD

Bryce Harper hits a 1-out 2R HR in the 9th off Kensley Jansen to put the Phils up 5-4 So on they play approaching the four hour mark.

The Reds got down 3-0 by the top of the 2nd today vs the Cubbies ... but then put up 20 runs on 20 hits. 20 - 5 was the final in Cincinnati. Since starting a stunning 3-22, the Reds are 11-8. Now that overall pace still only puts them on a pace to win around 51 games, but when you consider they were on a pace to go 19-143, it's a significant improvement and puts them just four games out of 4th in the NLC behind those very same Cubs. Cincy prize pitching prospect Hunter Greene got the win, his 2nd, going 5 innings before being pulled during a rain delay. But all is not going smoothly yet as he was responsible for all 5 runs including 2 HRs and a 2RBI-2B. On the year (9 starts) his H/9 ratio isn't bad [43 hits in 44.1 IP] but 24 BBs and now 14 HRs have led to 29 ER allowed. Not that I'm calling for panic as the 2nd overall pick out of HS in 2017 won't turn 23 until August. But that's a lot of HRs, even if you do pitch in that ballpark. Yanx sign ex- StL Cardinal Matt Carpenter and put him directly on their ML roster. He was on a minor league deal with Texas until they released him from their AAA roster last week.

Marlins at Braves is the other NLE match up this weekend. Currently 3-2 Braves in top 6 Nats hosting Rox but we're rained out tonight

Down 4-0 after one, 6-0 after two, and 8-2 after six, the Orioles scored 3 in the 7th, 3 more in the 8th, and 4 in the 9th to stun the BoSox 12-8 in Fenway. That comeback is positively Mets-ian.

The Orioles have been a big comeback machine this year also. They're currently up 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader over those same Sox and the top of the basement stairs is in reach by the end of the weekend. The Sox had won seven of eight going into that game, but it has the potential to be a real demoralizer.

Y'know what would be nice... if the fuckin Rays decide to, like maybe, score a run or two before the weekend is out. Starting their four game set with the Yanx 4.5 games out, they're now -6.5 after managing just two meaningless runs in the 9th inning on Thursday while down 7-0. They've put up goose eggs in the other 17 innings. Two games to go, starting with facing Gerritt Cole tonight, with a split the best they can do.
