This poorly written summary of a Buster Olney subscriber-only ESPN piece suggests that Cohen is prepping to wield his financial might to get the Mets more shit they need this year. Not made abundantly clear in this article --I suspect the writer missed the point-- was that Cohen will exhibit the cojones to swallow noncontender shit contracts, like Heyward or Moustakas-- if they come with star assets, who aren't named. https://www.si.com/mlb/mets/news/mlb-insider-identifies-mets-trade-targets-says-steve-cohen-is-on-a-mission

Again they don't want/need these guys, it's that they'll take em if they bring what we really need... let's say for example Luis Castillo who had 18 quality starts last year

Yeah, Wayward Heyward, last I read, was on the Injured List for unspecified reasons. I would guess that means Covid or Covid-exposure, but they should have a separate list for that. I don't think it's clear what the Mets are missing if anything, right now, unless the catcher market is opening up. There are always upgrades everywhere if you see an opportunity to go big, I guess. More will become clear as they approach the deadline and either injuries come or perhapas Escobars or Lugos don't return to their baselines, but after catcher, it isn't easy to identify obvious chinks for a team that was able to toss Robinson Canó on the scrapheap. Canó, by the way, has two singles in nine trips to the plate as a Padre, which — small sample size aside — is beneath his 2022 Metly output.

You certainly can't sleep on the confidence in the Scherzer and deGrom (or even Megill) coming back and performing at full capacity, but I like how their starting depth looks right now. I think a few times through the rotation may help them suss out where they are, and what's available. I like how they played their outfield emergency last season, avoiding overpaying for the quick fix and ultimately grabbing McKinney. But obviously this thread is more about the organization being willing to overpay in terms of taking on a bloated contract, rather than overpaying in talent. I wouldn't pull away from the terminal and leave Zack Greinke behind. But his contract ain't so big. There's Madison Bumgarny, but I think the Backs are a few weeks from tossing in the towel. A couple of Peterson starts, and maybe even a Szapucki sighting or two, would clarify. If Megill is as ready as he seemed to be in cementing a spot as a big league starter, maybe one or both of them are also. They both came up with better pedigree papers than Tylor had.

So Luis Castillo and Mike Moustakas for D Smith and a mid-teir starting p prospect? Moustakas is a very expensive version of Smith but can do the same kinda shit; Castillo is a former all-star, very durable but for a spring injury this year, now back. Walks too many guys but good "stuff" The Cubs have several high-performing bullpen dudes--including some fellas I never heard of but have great numbers.

Buck sounded like fuck off about that injury shit today. i'm sure the walk off homer helped. next man up and the team will step up and get it done. Same from Bassitt in the post-game. this team feels like they will do it too and uncle stevie is going to open his wallet as soon as pitching becomes available. i would be so much more depressed right now if Freddie Coupon owned this team we'd be on our way to 75 wins with a boat load of excuses about the injuries coming.

I may dislike the nickname "Uncle Steve" even more than "Freddie Coupon." It's the sort of nickname a groomer uses.
