If, Then

If Pete Alonso is hurt, the obvious injury replacement is Dom Smitty.

But if Marte is hurt, there's nothing obvious about it.

Mark Vientos is on the injured list. Daniel Johnson hasn't yet hit in two organizations so far this season. Khalil Lee has shown power but not a lot of contact, and we know how that translated last season.

They could call up an infielder and keep McNeil in the outfield, but of those on the roster, Gosuke Katoh has struggled to hit in AAA and Ronnie Mauricio is still trying to get some plate judgement in AA.

If they can make room on the roster, they might add Blankenhorn, Wyatt Young, or Jake Mangum, who does most things but hit for power.

I'll guess Mangum.

I would think Mangum is the callup.

And ... McCann to the 60?

MLB's website lists 44 players on the 40 man roster 9https://www.mlb.com/mets/roster/40-man) with 5 on the 60 day DL now (deGrom, Luchessi, May, Reid-Foley, and John Curtiss), so we shouldn't need anyone to move?

I believe you're right. I was counting last night and I got similar numbers, but I don't trust my arithmetic after midnight. Mets Roster Central doesn't list an opening, but those guys are idiots.

Who the hell is John Curtiss? You made him up.

Dom's only played three AAA games. I feel like that's not enough, but if Alonso is going to miss *serious* time and Dom's playing every day, yeah, no brainer.

I think Plummer comes first and McNeil gets most of the OF time. Daniel Palka is an interesting possibility too, but he's kind of that "traditional quad-A bopping 1B/OF" type.

John Curtiss is a reliever who has seen time with five teams in five years. He blew out his elbow and the Mets signed him to rehab with them for the duration of the season and hopefully be a useful part next year.

Khalil Lee is out of the lineup for Syracuse today, but Dom Smith is scheduled to play, and it's probably too late to fly from Syracuse to San Diego in time for the game anyhow.
