It killed one of my laptops. Dead in the water.

Re: Beware Latest Windows 11 Update

Did it download the update itself (like Windows 10 or 11 did, whether you wanted it or not) or did you download it?

My windows 10 self-installs updates (patches?) every once in a while.

I downloaded it, after being reminded daily for a week.

It just didn't update properly, I was able to reset it to a 'restore point.'

Dang machines...

Re: Beware Latest Windows 11 Update

Dammit.

When Windows crashed on my laptop a few years ago, I finally loaded Ubuntu Linux on it, and I've never looked back. It's free, it's dependable, and their Office equivalent is compatible with Excel and Word files, though using the software is definitely an acquired taste.

Re: Beware Latest Windows 11 Update

I've ran Linux on computers in the past and liked it. RedHat and another one

that the name escapes me right now and they were fun. Both times though I

had dual-boot so I could chose Windows or Linux, the Linux was more of a

getting-to-know-you kinda thing I guess.

I won't carry on about this much but I was really pissed off and when calling

the number I had for Microsoft on my cell I was quickly told sorry no humans

available. I finally figured out to start a ticket online and asked for a callback

and Blessing from Singapore or near there called me back in thirty seconds

so yay them for that. She said she would email me a tech support number if

I needed it in the future but she didn't follow through. Story of my life.

And just a side note, Apache Open Office is still out there and works just fine. I

have it on my oldest computer and use it for a few things.

Getting a new comp soon and may try to avoid paying for Office. Is Apache better than going the Google docs route?

I'm using LibreOffice as my alternative to Microsoft Office. I'm fairly satisfied with it, but sometimes have a problem with formatting when exchanging documents with Microsoft.

OpenOffice is great. I don't use Google, they know too much about

me already. And a subscription to MSOffice 365 is pretty cheap now.

So, I dunno....

Strange that I find myself not wanting to click this thread when there are new posts, as if it's this thread itself is going to freeze up my laptop.

Re: Beware Latest Windows 11 Update

Turns out this was a Sophos glitch rather that a Windows (Microsoft) issue.

Nothing to see here, unless you use Sophos...
