Luis Castillo Deserves His Own Revamped Thread Again

This is part of my own continuing bullshit, but hear me out. I have 2 work colleagues (including my boss) who are Cincy-born Reds fans.

One of them (not my boss) is very into & intelligent about the Reds/baseball/fantasy the whole thing and when I remarked to him this am that the Mets were having the kind of year where until a few weeks ago, the great catch Pham made in the 8th inning last night tips off his glove and the next 6 guys get hits, but that kinda luck has just seemed to turn lately, and his reply was "Well, Pham could well be on your team in August," and then I thought hmmm.

Maybe its not just Moustakis (we take) & Castillo (we want) on this club, but Pham too.

He's 34 but can still hit pretty good 11-34-260 but a 342 OBP and 7 steals and as we saw last night can go get it too.

As BR/TR DH/reserves go, he'd be at once, an upgrade on Davis but not quite dramatic an update as Trey Mancini (Mancini younger, 121 OPS+ vs. 101 OPS+ but counting numbers are pretty similar. The bonus with Pham, as I see it, is that he at worst fulfills the Inciarte role and maybe even platoons with LH hitter as needed. The bonus is he's extra sauce in a deal that doesn't cost us much since we're taking back all of Moustakas $$ and getting a Carrasco/Megill/Peterson etc. dramatic upgrade in Castillo.

It also keeps us from spreading around our resources too much so powder dry for Wilson Contreras+relievers or however you wanna upgrade catching and bullpen.

Luis Castillo. Don't Leave Cincinnati Without Him!

edit: coworker latest reply "more" meaning a deal around Davis/Smith:

[BLOCKQUOTE]Taking Moustakas' salary might be all it takes, but otherwise I would hope they'd get more for Castillo. This is the Reds, though, so probably not.[/BLOCKQUOTE]

Yeah, I kinda floated the Pham-at-the-deadline notion in the quiztastic Little Red Book thread.

Pham (Pham) it's a trade we have to ponder

Pham (Pham) what he's worth we need to wonder

Pham (Pham) will it work or turn out to be a blunder?

Eh, not crazy about Pham. Whatever you do, don't play fantasy football with him.

PHAM is singlehandedly KILLING us in this series, I tellya. We'd do well to trade for him 5 minutes after tonight's game!!! Fuck, it, between innings.

Senzel is killing us. That idiot who wrote the KTE couldn't say enough about how his power had disappeared almost to nothing since his rookie year, and now he's homered twice in three games against us.

Castillo 2-hits the Yanx thru 7, but does so just as Gary & Ron are talking about how the Mets will handle their (possible) forthcoming glut of starting pitching.
