“How ya doin’, Chris Bassitt?”

He's feeling good, though not about testing for COVID.

We value candor, but “feelin' good, guys, ready to strap it on” would have served him better.

Also, don't breathe too heavily on Carlos Carrasco.

Re: “How ya doin’, Chris Bassitt?”

While I'm happy for him he was asymptomatic, threatening not to report a positive test is a recipe for disaster. I'm sure a lot of guys in that clubhouse are saying, "I'll keep it a secret, too." Just a really, really dumb thing to say. COVID doesn't care about the name on the back of the jersey, it'll come after you.

It also doesn't care that your teammates have newborn kids at home.

His manager is 66-years old and the fact that Buck is double-boosted doesn't change the fact that he's 66. More like Chris Ass-itt, as far as I'm concerned.

Jay Horwitz is like 100. Jim Duquette is walking around with one kidney. Howie Rose is recovering from a serious illness.

I don't want to say he's got a punch in the face coming to him, but he might have a suspension coming to him.

"Say something, or put my teammates at risk a little bit."

Yeah, that's the team spirit. Like you know exactly how much risk you're putting them in, Dr. Bassitt. And when somebody else tests positive, you keep your mouth shut and infect others, which you can do even if you yourself are asymptomatic.

Coming off a fresh case of COVID myself, it's amazing how tone-deaf this is. I wouldn't wish my last week on him, but he apparently doesn't care.

Wayne brought it up. A little on the sympathetic side for what players perceive as the inconsistency of the rule in terms of reporting positive tests (some players therefore don't miss time). Howie suggested Chris might want to walk back his comments somewhat, stressing the impact on other people and all we don't know.

Re: “How ya doin’, Chris Bassitt?”

This is only going to make other players not test. A guy feels a little tired, so figuring he should protect his young daughter and teammates ,tests. Feels no other symptoms, gets told by..someone..that sometimes you could test positive for up to a month, and comes away thinking he just wasted his time and risked missing a month of time.

We've given up as a country, and the people being careful end up being the ones that miss out. While it's great when we all do our part and look out for others, it's not Bassitt's job to look out for Howie, or other employees of the Mets. It's the Mets job. THEY are the ones that failed to mandate vaccines, masks indoors, testing.......anything. The union didn't push for it either, tacitly implying that it's NOT Bassitt's job to care about spreading infection.

It's just failure all around. No one should go to do the right thing and come out feeling duped.

Missed it. Did they mention anything about a punch in the face?

Ron was critical. Gary was “I'm just reporting what he said.”

Ron is also a guy trying to put cancer behind him.

Ronnie apparently hadn't heard the clip above so it was new to him as Gary related it and his immediate reaction was 'No, you gotta be a good citizen '.

It's the mentality of, "My arm's a bit sore, but I can still pitch" among players. They don't want to admit anything that might keep them out of the lineup. And that was very much top of mind for Bassitt. Screw everybody, I'm not missing my turn in the rotation.

Could be. But if I was. a betting man, I'd put my money on "He's probably a Republican and that explains why he said what he said. " it's gob-smacking mind-boggling just how ignorant they are on certain matters, which Bassitt clearly demonstrates. Two and a half years into a virus that once shut down the world, killed millions and continues to kill, and he's still so clueless about it-- despite working in an industry where Covid protocols are everywhere.

Re: “How ya doin’, Chris Bassitt?”

what Covid protocols are everywhere?

I mean, he decided to test on his own, because of teammates/daughter after feeling a little extra tired in a start. How many MLB players are testing there, versus pounding another pain-killer or "energy drink" and ignoring it? 10%?

Re: “How ya doin’, Chris Bassitt?”

btw, it's worth noting that he's "active" now without a test because the made up arbitrary protocol that has nothing to do with whether he's still infectious says 5 day quarantine.
