Because Jerry Reinsdorf knows he made a mistake by getting rid of LaRussa way back when, only to see him go on to several WS titles elsewhere, and is

reluctant to pull the plug again. This was a Reinsdorf hire so he's the one who's going to make the decision.

Toronto is still in pretty good shape in the new congested post-season scenario. With the Orioles' awesome streak taking up to .500, every team in the East is even or better. There's a good chance four of the five teams will be seeing post-season money. And the Blue Jays have the added advantage of having opponents who are afraid to go to Canada.
