I just put on ESPN for a minute and they're discussing the over/under

(sponsored by DraftKings) on how far the longest HR will travel. Sad.

Leave it to ESPN to run a two hour Baseball Tonight at 4:00 followed by another one hour version at 7:00 all on a night when there are no baseball games being played.

Followed by the premiere of a SEVEN PART Jeter bio.

Ken Burns' The Civil War was nine parts.

Gimmie a break.

Anyhow, this would be fun if it were held at the old LA Wrigley Field, home of the original Home Run derby.

This wouldn't be fun if it were held at the original Garden of Eden with the original cast.

Is there a more masturbatory professional sporting event than the home run derby? I think not.

Maybe the slam dunk competition.

But it's close.

They don't let Berman still do the “back, back, back” thing, do they?

I followed last year's derby on my phone before tuning in for Pete in the last round. It's in an effort to watch as little of ESPN as possible.

I would not watch at all if not for Pete. But I'm rooting for him. He looks like he's having fun.

I'm not sure.

How deep were the fences in the Garden of Eden?

Did you guys know there is an ESPN Jeter doc? :0

My wife wants me to count the number of references to The Captain, with an over/under of 75.

How is Pete a second seed?

We were in a restaurant last week and the screens were showing ESPN and one of the preview shows was on, and, being ESPN they were doing a whole show previewing this thing. My wife noticed that they had Jeter sitting in a chair with a blue background and swore it looked like he had a halo. Then when ARod was in the chair -- no halo. ESPN is not subtle.

Interrupting this fake baseball thread with some news about actual baseball, I just looked at the schedule and discovered that, starting tonight, we have five games over the next eleven days.

Exactly how do they expect me to survive on such meager rations?

Well fortunately there's apparently a seven-part documentary on Derek Jeter you can watch.

Just seeing this. Allegedly, if tomorrow's game ends in a tie, it will be settled by a home run derby?

I lost what was probably an illegal feed after "The Star-Spangled Banner," and that was kind of fine because that performance sapped me of all my power.

If we didn't all of us suspect, this is actually an experiment disguised as a show, I'd almost be okay with it vs other lame solutions, maybe? But nobody trusts baseball.

Y'know, I might have even watched it if it were two or three parts. But Seven?!? He's just not that interesting. And he was intentionally not that interesting.

I think it'd be more fun to have an array of skill competitions. Outfield arms. Race around the bases. 100 Grounders. Etc. MLB Field Day

But this is the only one where the risk is deemed worth the reward.

They did that one year and someone (Barry Larkin?) hurt his arm in the throwing comp and they never went back.

With even hard core NBA fans now admitting that the dunk contest has been totally lame for more than a decade now, the NHL runs the best skills competition at their ASG

Yeah, I figured an arm would go and they would never speak of it again.

How sad to find out it happened, and if I had ever known of it, I had forgotten, as they never spoke of it again.

Apparently there is some controversy that ESPN miscounted one of Schwarber's homers and he actually beat Pujols in that round. Oops.

Yeah!!! because outside of the ASG, Larkin never threw a single ball with his utmost effort.
