21 of the next 28 games for the Mets are against contending teams including the Yankees, Dodgers, and a metric shitton of games against our main division rivals, the Braves. After September 1st, the Mets schedule gets much softer with most games against bottom feeders except for 3 against the Brewers and 3 against the Braves. So these next 28 games are really going to be a time for the Mets to prove their, uh, mettle.

Loving the optimism here! Feel free drop the specific number of wins you think the Mets will get in this thread.

I'm going with 18.

17 out of 28 is a 98-win pace over 162.

My heart says 28, but my head says 20.

Put me down for 16. I'd be quite happy with that.

Same here. 16-12 in that stretch feels okay.

Good thing no one voted for the two bottom choices.

There's something a bit wild about the low expectations. I mean, overall we've been over .650, we're hot as hell, we're healthy for the first time all year, we've got our two aces back pitching lights out, but we're steeling ourselves against a mild collapse for the most part. I get the reasoning, but it still seems odd to me.

A (gambling-oriented) article in the Athletic recently posited that the Mets have had some batted ball luck this year and that the Braves have in fact played better. The writer wasn't advocating a wager however, even at the Braves current +800 odds, because the stats only take into account how a team has played so far - not that Scherzer mixed 6 weeks and deGrom just came back and the Mets could in fact be so much better than any statistics because of that.

Didn't know Spencer Strider was moonlighting as a sports writer ... Hey-Yooooo!

At the halfway mark, the Mets are at 10-4, and thus on pace for a 20-8 stretch! The four people who selected 13-16 wins are almost certainly going to be wrong, but I'm sure they'll be okay with that.

13-6 as we are around 2/3's of the way through this stretch and heading into the Subway Series. The Yankees have a winning percentage of .607 which is still very good but quite a falling off from the .660 they had when I started this thread.

Per Tankathon, the Mets have the easiest schedule in the NL the rest of the way. Yes, you gotta take 'em one at a time. Yes, on any given day. Yes, each game starts 0-0.

16 of the last 39 games are against last-place teams. I'll take that.

And yet, I remember those seasons when it would be tight towards the wire and Met fans would say, 'Eh, don't worry, we've got those two late series against the Marlins'.

How'd those work out?

Actually, I remember fans saying things like “Oh shit, we're facing the last place Marlins who are starting a 31-year-old rookie. We're doomed!”

Re: The Next 28

The Mets head into their final stretch of their toughest month with a 16-9 record. They have a chance to add up to three more wins, but they will be against the best team in baseball. I could say it's good news that Jacob deGrom is starting one of these games, but that may just end up being a night that the offense feels like it doesn't need to hit.

I said 19-9 which would require a sweep of the hated Dodgahs which I would be 100% happy with.

By the way, the Mets winning percentage over the last 25 games is .640 which is slightly better than their winning percentage for the season so far of .636.

Everyone who picked 17 to 20 wins, ten of us in total, step up and claim your prize.

And everyone who posted the correct number of 18 wins, that is me, wear your prognostication prize with pride!
