Mets Puzzle

I've been playing some online Acrostic puzzles lately, and decided to try my hand at creating one. (I found a utility that makes it pretty easy. Doing it by hand would be maddening.)

Anyway, here it is. It's Mets-related, so it belongs in this forum. If I make more of them I may fully incorporate it into the UMDB.

If you've never done an Acrostic before, you fill in the answers in the lower section and as you do, you start to be able to fill out the boxes in the upper part, which contains a quotation. The first letters of each solved clue at the bottom spells out the author of the quote.

If I haven't explained it well, there's a more comprehensive explanation here: https://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/puzzles/acrostic-puzzles.htm

Anyway, here's the puzzle. I hope you enjoy it.

Let me know what you think. Too easy? Too hard?

Re: Mets Puzzle

It's totally puzzling.

I believe the second clue should be four words.

Not feeling well so I'm printing it out to work on in bed

Yes, I caught that myself a few minutes ago and have corrected it.

Re: Mets Puzzle

I have qualms with your "F" clue. I'd go with "Oscar nominee for 'Juno'" or something along those lines.

Re: Mets Puzzle

Yeah, but she was "Ellen" then. I originally had it as "She used to be Ellen" but realized that was bad, and changed it to "He".

Yeah, but it's bad form to deadname.

Hmmm. I wasn't aware of that.

Okay, I changed it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Re: Mets Puzzle

Realized pen and paper were not going to work since it's interactive lol

Love the idea though!

Personally I suck at Proper nouns

Re: Mets Puzzle

It would have worked on paper, it's just harder to correct mistakes.

Re: Mets Puzzle

Very nice. I'm a big acrostic fan and have done the NYT acrostic every other Sunday for probably 30 years. They don't use punctuation which makes it more difficult.

Re: Mets Puzzle

wow, that was hard. the formatting was messing with my head. 94 is part of the same word as 95. that had me stumped for a long ass time.

Cal not even apostrophes? That's the first thing I look for

Re: Mets Puzzle

Yeah, no apostrophes - never mind commas or periods. Also, much longer than this quote.

Both puzzles are available on this page: http://ultimatemets.com/puzzles.php

For the second puzzle (dated August 16) I was able to have some of the clues relate to the Mets.

Yeah, I had to use the zoom option in my browser for the larger puzzle.

My browser wouldn't blow it up with a zoom-in. All the other elements of the page enbiggened, but not the puzzle.

What is a "British male monarch"? I've never heard of such a thing.

Should it be "male British monarch" instead?

Re: Mets Puzzle

I just think it's funny, because I've practically come to think of the UK as a by-definition matriarchal society.

It's been a long time since that lyric has been sung in earnest.

It's a fun fact!

I have more potential puzzles in the pipeline, but the Acrostic Machine that I've been using has been down for the last few days. More to come... eventually.
