IGT 9/19/22 NYM@MIL Max Effort

Max is back, or so the interwebs tell me. He's pitching against someone and as long as that someone isn't Jacob DeGrom, I again like our chances.

I hope there is little celebration until the division is wrapped up.

Related question: With new roster rules and DH nonsense keeping benches short even until September, will celebrations be more muted as teams can no longer field a full hangover lineup the next day, or will we see some day-after teams with a half the guys unfit for duty?

I remember when cinching celebrations were spontaneously rowdy, involving copious quantities of bubbly alcoholic beverages in bottles. Now, with so many levels of clinching before the championship, I guess it has been diluted.

Nehi Orange and sheet cake seems to sum the appropriate level of enthusiasm.

Whatever the level of enthusiasm, win the game first.

This continues the tour of Daniel Vogelbach's former teams. Vogelbach once hit a walkoff pinch-hit grand slam as a Brewer. Walkoff, pinch-hit, grand slam. The only things that could make that sweeter would be if (a) there were two outs, and (b) the Brews were down by three.

Oh, wait. They were down by three. Only one out keeping it from being the most dramatic homer possible.

Back to that Vogelbach/Reyes GS

Seeing a clip like that reminds me of the old Armando wars on the MoFo when many of the critters there (as well as a fair number of baseball fans in general) insisted

that only OUR closers blew saves in gut-kick fashion. After all, if a save falls in the forest but you're not there to feel the gut-kick, can we be sure that it even happened?

Of course it does. It will show in the next day's box scores, will be counted in baseball-reference and discussed endlessly (about whether there is something called clutch or choke) wherever baseball fans meet.

There are no box scores in the forest.

no it's not. It's the diff between like a 10-10:30 end time and a 9:30-10 end time, which can easily be the difference between getting home at a semi-reasonable hour and not.

On the other end it's a a good 100 minutes after the end of the "typical" work day. If you need more time than that to get to the park, you're likely outside the target area. And it's not like the rush hour gets better for 7:10.

The “normal” work day does not end at 5 PM for many (most?) New Yorkers.

And, Mets fans clearly disagree with your assessment. Fans-in-seats numbers for 7:10 starts are considerably lower than they are at 7:30. Change the start time and that problem gets worse.

Nice little tack on run here.

On edit: make that runs.

Slightly off-topic for a moment, but you gotta like a mid-west/west coast road trip with only one game post-8 PM

7:40 start again tomorrow, then day games Wednesday plus Saturday & Sunday in Oakland.

Only the Friday night 9:40 start vs A's is a problem time for me (and, I'm assuming, many of you as well).

Corbin Burnes' warmup song is “Friends In Low Places”. Brandon was on the big screen as the lead off batter signing every word.

This is so adorably Nimmo.

Actually, I was about 5 seats away from the camera guys up above home plate. I am not terribly photogenic and it would have taken a mighty turn for him to swing around to get me...but definitely possible if I could talk one of them into it. Though, yes, my seats would be nearly impossible to see during the normal course of the game. I would've had to plead for a bumper shot. I did walk down to the concourse near the 3rd baseline for the bottom of the ninth. There were mostly Mets fans down there and I wanted to be closer to them as opposed to staying in my nearly empty section.

6 innings of perfection in Scherzer's 200th win along with the clinching of a playoff spot (as well as the 94th win of the season) makes this one the top all-time games I have attended.

One of the things that has changed at Miller Park...er...American Family Field is that they have replaced the rotating out-of-town scores with static billboard ads on the left field wall during the action. The scores flash two at a time in between innings. I was hoping for a better outcome in ATL but couldn't follow as closely as I would have liked without pulling out my phone.

I'll be back in Milwaukee on Wednesday for the series finale businessperson's special.

That scrum of fans got some SNY screen time during the on-field Francisco/Pete/Nimmo interviews.

Can't say that I saw you but maybe some Zapruder-like film examination will turn up new evidence.

Re: IGT 9/19/22 NYM@MIL Max Effort

A year or three ago. I guess Miller opted not to re-up after their initial time period ran out. Either that or maybe AFF just out-bid them.

Tough to miss the new sponsor as there are three signs, separate but almost on top of each other, behind home plate so as to be seen from the CF camera.

I didn't realize they were going to be on the field after the game. I left after the final out and hugs on the infield. :(

Citi Field is subtly sponsored by an insurer, as the arch over the Citigroup logo is a latter-day representation of the umbrella from the traditional Travelers Insurance logo, Travelers now being a member of the Citigroup family of stuff.

Forget just ballparks, insurers seem to be a big part of ALL advertising. Seems you can't swing a negligently injured cat with hitting commercials for Geico, State Farm, Progressive, Liberty Mutual, or Allstate, and many of those have multiple campaigns going simultaneously.

Anyputts, I was a little disappointed that in all the post-game interviews, including at least two with Lindor and at least one with Diaz, nobody brought up Puerto Rico, very much under water and in the dark.
