IGT 09/27/22 - MIA @ NYM - L'Shana Tova, Mets

The Mets finally return home for two games with the Miami Marlins. The Mets have a (1, 1.5, 2) game lead on the 2d place Braves who continue their three-game series in WSH. Tonight, Carlos Carrasco takes the mound for the Mets. Carrasco's last outing was a poor one, against MIL. He faced MIA on 9/10, went 6 innings and only gave up 1 ER. This will be his 5th start against MIA. For the Marlins, it's Pablo Lopez coming off a strong outing against CHC, 6 2/3, 1 ER. The Mets crushed him on 9/10 when he gave up 8 ER in 3 2/3. This is the 5th time he will face the Mets (not counting at least 2 or 3 times in ST). Game time is 7:10.

That's cool. The thought is start atoning now and beat the rush, but eat better food. Kind of like getting your Christmas shopping done by Election Day, but lighter on the wallet and heavier on the soul. Then do a whole lot of atoning nine days from now and don't eat at all. But it's never the wrong time to atone

With a small amount of effort this year, the baseball schedule could have been mostly accommodating to Rosh Hashanah this year, with the two-day observance falling from sundown Sunday to sundown Tuesday, which is already the most inactive period in any baseball week.



Of course, observation of the prohibition on travel would still be problematic.

My opinion is that a New York team shouldn't play during Yom Kippur but the Mets will be playing twice. The Tuesday game could have been a day game but the Wednesday games are mandated to start at a specific time so the Mets couldn't play on Wednesday night.

I have to agree. I don't mind that they play Sundays.

As a matter of fact Sunday sports are illegal in PA, except between certain hours. I just found that out recently.



That means the Phillies, Steelers, etc are breaking the law if they play Sunday night

It doesn't seem practicable to start scheduling around religious holidays, given the length of the schedule. There are of course games regularly scheduled on all sorts of holidays across many religions.

Sure, but not all religious holidays include prohibitions on certain activities, but I didn't mean to create a fuss.



I agree that the Mets shouldn't cater. The cost of the matzoh alone would be prohibitive.

I read somebody (don't remember who) saying that it might be better for the Mets to be a Wild Card. They'll have a weaker opponent in the Wild Card series and then they would only have to beat the Dodgers in a best-of-five instead of a best-of-seven, which might be an easier task.

Seconded. A WC has to win 13 postseason games (2 WC, 3 LDS, 4 LCS, 4 WS) to become champions, while a division winner on a bye only has to win 11 more games.

haven't been particularly enamored with Blevins, though it's better than Zeile at least. Wish they'd break the formula.

As analysts go, at least he's someone who knows the teams and didn't just drop in, and needs to catch up with the regular viewers.



Sometimes you get a special guest in the radio booth (not naming names), and it's all, "I haven't seen much of Lugo, Gary. What's he throw?"



Who else is currently on the payroll that works the analytical side? Blevins, Duquette, Recker, Zeile? Anyone else?

    They should run some volts through Lindsey Nelson and prop his old weird ass up in the booth. Like they used to do with Dick Clark every year on December 31st.

    I think the plan should be to always have a three-man booth. When Ronnie is away, they can rotate in guest pitching-type analysts one series at a time, and when Keith's away they can rotate in guest batting-type guys.



    Among other things, that would keep them from these situations where they have neither and the substitute is both inexperienced and unfamiliar to the audience., but asked to carry water for, not one, but two seasoned vets.

    The Marlins hand movement after a cheap, lucky hit, is pretty obnoxious for a team 50 games or so under .500.

    The Marlins hand movement after a cheap, lucky hit, is pretty obnoxious for a team 50 games or so under .500.


    Yeah it's the "let's make our hands look like the limp dicks our place in the standings represents" move.

    7 - 2 on Acuna's 2nd HR of the night.

    I've had the ATL/WAS game on for maybe a cumulative time of 90 seconds and I've seen them drive in more runs than the Mets have in 2 hours.

    I have nothing against Cooper but I have no sympathy for another player getting hurt when the Mets have gotten hit more than any other team in recent history and one cost them Marte who they really miss.

    Blevins' replacement for (most of) that season was Álex Torres, who was mostly fine, but never really showed any special anti-lefty skillz.



    Sanchez' replacement was supposed to be Roberto Hernandez, but really turned out to be Guillermo Mota, who they got after the deadline, a few weeks later.

    btw, if you extrapolate a full season for Pete in 2020 he's On Top of that HRs in first four seasons list.

    If the Mets get a couple of guys on, it might be a tough choice between the lefty (Guillorme) or pop (Ruf) for who is going to bat for McCann.

    McNeil's two hits allowed him to re-engage with the fringes of the batting average race.



    Frustrating to watch Vogelbach and Naquin go down looking like that. Vogelback has maybe the quickest bat on the team, so it's always a kick to the gut to watch him go down looking.

    Yeah, I've been hearing that for four weeks now as they've struggled to stay over .500 against bottom feeders and wound up as the wipees as often as they've been the wipers.

    Were the outfielders getting bad jumps? Balls with a lot of hang time and not hit very hard were falling in all night.

    I didn't have the best angle to see it but my take was no; there were a LOT of lucky dinks, including at least 2 that sounded like broken bats.

    This game sucked a big fat mackerel. Aside from Diaz, and Pete's blast, there wasn't much to get hopeful about.
