Smith, Nogosek, Claudio, Marrero

Anthony DiComo twitported yesterday that Dominic Smith, Stephen Nogosek, Alex Claudio and Deven Marrero all have lockers in the Mets clubhouse. Presumably, they are functioning as the taxi squad to be fresh and available should a need arise. Presumably, they are heading to Atlanta with the team.

None appeared in tonight's International League finale for the Scusers, with Syracuse using Gosuke Katoh at first, so DiComo appears to be right.

Would like to see Francisco Alvarez join that squad, if only for kicks, but he went 2-for-3 with two walks in the OrangeMets finale. Maybe, he's headed down to Georgia after the game, or maybe taxi squads are limited only to 40-Player Roster members.

I bet Michael Perez jons them.

Smith has reverse splits and may have been a better option as a DH against lefties than either Ruf or Vientos, and he's not a complete disaster with a glove on his hand.

I hears you, though I don't make much of reverse splits.

I think it's getting close to certain that Ruf doesn't make the post-season roster. Who gets that job, though, may not be as clear.

The decision may become more clear when we know who the opponent will be, and what kind of and how many left-handed pitchers they have.

I think Vientos is likely to get a spot, but with no guarantee he starts at DH. I saw one suggestion from Tim Britton that in a game started by a lefty, the Mets could put Escobar at DH and Guillorme at third, on the theory that if there's not going to be offense from that spot in the lineup, better then to upgrade the defense.

I tend also not to have Buck's faith in Guillorme against lefties.

The first answer, I guess, is to get Marte on the field. I still have a dream scenario where Álvarez comes up and lands like a bomb. Only, like, a good bomb.
