Maybe it's because I get to see so few games....

but last night's comeback victory was the most inspiring thing I've seen in a long time. Diaz seemed super-human to me, and Escobar--have I ever seen a performance as outstanding as that? Can't remember the last time.

It sticks out because I was so disgusted with the Mets' weakass shit until the eighth inning, but they obviously kept their heads in the game, total pros. I'm prepared to call this whole season a success even if they blow the rest of their games and lose the first round of the playoffs decisively.

That was an amazing game.

Also, I've been mulling over Scherzer's quote from earlier in the week, "Pressure isn't a problem, it's a privilege," and it encapsulates the attitude of the professional athlete like I've never quite heard articulated before. It keeps sounding in my head, like a line from a great poem or something.

Did you not get to see the ninth-inning comeback against the Phils early in the season?

Re: Maybe it's because I get to see so few games....

After Tuesday's loss to Miami which was coupled with the Braves waltz over the Nats, I was already in a foul mood baseball-wise.

Then, between with the Noffense we showed for the first 7 innings coupled with my faith that the Nats were a solid lock to blow

their lead via some minor league level play (which they actually did although later got it back) I was sure that the division title

was a goner.

So when each of the two games turned in our favor almost simultaneously (I dropped in on ATL/WAS regularly) it was almost

stunning to witness because it seemed so unlikely to happen in each case.

I get to see very few games on TV, so probably not. Don't remember it, which is a strong indicator.

Did it seem to you guys that Diaz was on a whole nother level last night? He missed the plate (by a lot) on one pitch, but otherwise he seemed like a good college pitcher throwing to Little Leaguers. I can't remember seeing such domination ever, and I've seen Gibson, Koufax, Seaver, Guidry, Blue. It was almost too easy for him....

I was in such a bad mood. Down 4-0 and the Nats had allowed Atlanta to tie. I was certain they'd lose. So ecstatic afterwards.

It must seem so strange to non-sports fans how drastically we are affected by these games.

To be honest, that was like the fifteenth-best I've seen Diaz this season. He was pitching above and beyond that for about six weeks. He's hopefully returning to that form, and he clearly doesn't need his best form to prosper, but for a good chunk of the season, his slider had more lateral movement, and his fastball more burn. It was cruel as shit.

You don't want to make too much of velocity, but this pitch came right down the middle to a .300 hitter. (He was at the time, anyhow.)

I forgot Doc in my list of absolutely killer dominators.

I guess I missed something if that was just a so-so performance by Diaz's standards. Honestly, the Marlins didn't even look like they belonged up at the plate. They looked bewildered, frustrated, completely impotent, calling out "Mommy, make the bad man stop!"
