I feel like he's the inspiration for Lee Mazzill's batting stance, except Mazzilli might have been as relaxed with the upper half, but Carew was relaxed in the legs too. He was the recipient of a heart transplant a number of years ago. That he's still around at 77 wasn't a given.

Former Jets tight end Konrad Reuland died from a massive aneurysm at just 29. He had attended school with Carew's daughters and his family had his heart and kidney donated to Carew, among other organs that went elsewhere.
