Not who you think will win but who do you WANT to win? You gotta pick, you can't say "F 'em both". Padres: CON: They beat our guys. They acted holier than thou at the ear inspection when one of their stars was banned for being a juicer. PRO: We really don't give a crap about them for most of the season. Phillies: CON: We hate them. They hate us more. PRO: They beat Atlanta, so thank you. The Mets are much, much better than they are.

Also, he clearly had a foreign substance on his ears. Was it “sticky stuff” that affected his pitches? Maybe not. But there was stuff there nonetheless.



But, that kerfuffle aside, the Padres are generally unworthy of my consideration, while Philly is just plain objectionable for a litany of reasons too extensive to fit here and which are well-known to all.



Padres-Guardians is basically the only acceptable WS matchup.

I've been rooting for the Padres ever since they eliminated the Mets. Mainly because I think that they have the best uniforms of the remaining teams and also, because a series victory over the Dodgers, which the Padres completed last night, is consistent with everything I believe about playoff baseball.

Sandy Eggo. This way we can say we lost to the champs, which may make our early exit easier to swallow. The padres definitely had that "could be dangerous come October" feel.....also, fuck Philly.

I've been rooting for the Pods ever since they eliminated the Mets but every year, I root real hard for a series like Phillies v. Padres. I love this. It's as normal as a Dodgers/Mets NLCS or a Mets/Braves NLCS. It confirms everything I believe about playoff baseball and baseball in general and is sort or my revenge for all of those playoff articles I come across every year that annoy the living shit out of me that make much ado about a team with a better record losing in three of four games to its opponent. This is all literally --literally-- a coin flip as far as I'm concerned and I think that every qualifier has about the same chance of taking the title.

Watching via tape delay and have almost caught up to real time (about 15 minutes behind at this point). Currently 2 - 0 Phils on solo HRs by Harper (barely) and Schwarber (seriously) heading to bottom six. Darvish v Wheeler (a very efficient one hitter).

hey at least now the padres know what it's like to be one-hit in the playoffs. i'm still rooting for them though, despite 2/5 of the mets great future rotation being on the phillies roster.

At least they figured out a way to get a post-season game completed in under 3 hours: have the teams combine for 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 BBs (and 20 Ks) with no mid-inning pitching changes -- 2:43

This is the move that bothered me most fron Brodie + Jeff. Let wheeler go and dissed him on the way out, despite being reminded how deep a rotation he provided with Stroman. It was obvious that he tried and failed to trade him so the Phils got him for nothing but $$.

My recent "scrapbooking" reminded me that in 2015 Wheeler was almost traded, along with Wilmer Flores, to the Brewers for Carlos Gomez, a deal that would have precluded the deal for Yoenis Cespedes.

So now I'm watching SDP/PHI (Game 4) via delay (am about 45 minutes behind). Still in bottom 1st but both starters are already gone. Padres hung 4 on Falters and the Phils, and SD's Clevinger was lifted without recordng a single out. 4 - 3 SD but with the Phils still hacking in the opening frame.

Phillies, down 4 - 0 and then 6 - 4, now lead 8 - 6 after 5 (at least in my world it is ... I'm still about 20 minutes behind) Rhys Hoskins with two 2R HRs which gave the Phils their first two runs then runs # 6 & 7 to go ahead for the first time. Syndergaard in for the top of the 6th

Padres need at least four in top 9 or else the Sillies, the worst NL team to qualify for the post-season, will be 3/4th of the way to the WS and will have Zack Wheeler for the kill tomorrow (vs Darvish).

Howie Rose just commented on twitter that no matter how much MLB tries to emulate the NBA and NFL (after seeing a screenshot that said the Phillies 'advanced to the world series' instead of 'won the pennant') and this is another seeming example of that.

I suspect that error is on New Era rather than MLB but yaneverknow. It reminds me of the times I've hear ESPN yakkers refer to baseball managers as the "head coach". It's not their fault, they simply don't know any better. Neither, I suspect, does New Era.
