Re: Roger Clemens Day

Refresh my memory. Why was Piazza going to first base on a foul ball?

I guess he was running in case it was fair

Re: Roger Clemens Day

I always refer to him by his complete name. It was a line in a song parody of Taking Care of Business I wrote about that Subway series.

"You gotta' give them credit

They really won that sucker

Even that fat coward, bat tossing, motherf**ker.
"

Re: Roger Clemens Day

The best part was Clemens explaining "I thought it [the bat shard] was the ball."

Uh, OK, so why would you throw the "ball" at the batter? And wait, you thought a sharp piece of wood was a round cloth-covered object with which you are intimately familiar?

Anyone who would buy anything out of this habitual liar's mouth after that is stupider than he is.

Re: Roger Clemens Day

I was disappointed that Hampton showed almost nothing in that game. I felt it was on him to show some intensity, instead he nibbled and walked guys and put the game out of reach. That's how I remembered it anyway

I haven't thought of Dolphin Face in quite some time.

Re: Roger Clemens Day

We got beat in that Series but it's funny. I still think we were the better team and would have won it if it were the best of nine, or eleven or thirteen.... we just ran out of games.

Instead of the dupe post:

I put Timo's brainfart on the bases on Bobby V. Seems to me, someone has to take the hit when a fundy is ignored, and not just the player who passed gas.

Re: Roger Clemens Day

If Timo runs we're still batting today. That goof plus Hamptons poor showing in the Clemens game stand out.

Piazza was a total pussy not to charge the mound suspension or not

Re: Roger Clemens Day

Having Mike Piazza get suspended in Game One of the World Series would not have been a good thing. He did the right thing for his team.

Re: Roger Clemens Day

That said, it was an unfortunate choice for Piazza to use as a name for his memoir.

Re: Roger Clemens Day

MY BLAME LIST FOR THAT GAME

1. Roger Clemens (obviously)

2. Umpy Crew (put your heads together, men)

3. Timo (run)

4. Frank Robinson (not a particularly rational blame, as his on-field authority would seemingly be more or less nil, but that the whole thing went down with the dean of discipline in the front row is kinda surreal)

5. Valentine

6. Hampton

7. Torre

8. Piazza

9. Bordick

10. Jeter
