Per Chuckie's Facebook page, the exMet and original Marlin has passed away at 55. It appears to have been an ongoing battle with cancer.

Re: RIP Chuck Carr 1967-2022

After riding the AAA express for a few years with the Mets and Cards, became a basestealing champ in his official rookie year with the Marlins.

A few months younger than myself. Despite having very little power, he homered deep off of Hall-of-Famer John Smoltz in the post-season in 1997. I guess that was the last trip to the plate of his career, as the Braves swept.

Re: RIP Chuck Carr 1967-2022

I can still hear recently promoted Dave Telgheder laughing in an interview on WFAN over having the chance, the morning after a Mets-Marlins game in 1993, to "shut up little Chuckie Carr." It didn't seem to be said with malice. I figured they knew each other in the minors.

If Carr liked to talk, he also loved to play. Check his "other" league trail on his Baseball Reference page: China, Italy, Mexico and the early Atlantic League after his NLDS homer. Also check his UMDB memories page. He seemed to make a number of people, whether they knew him or not, pretty happy, if only for a fleeting moment...appropriate for someone so fleet of foot.
