Another Battle

Over the years I've battled many medical problems. Appendicitis that had my temperature up to 106 that led to me passing out on a subway and necessitated an emergency appendectomy. Diabetes Lenses replaced in both eyes High Blood pressure Kidney Cancer A Heart Attack I've fought them all. But the Diabetes has won. My kidney function has steadily decreased. Yesterday I had a tube inserted into my stomach so I will be able to have dialysis. Once healed, that tube will be attached to a machine that cleans my blood every day for the rest of my life or until they can find a kidney to transplant. The wait on the transplant list is currently 3-5 years. Another battle. I'll win this one, too. Later

62 one of the things I admire about you is that you are a real battler. You would not have gotten through all those maladies if you didn't have a good fighting spirit. And a Vietnam veteran as well! I know you will make this work!

I'm so sorry to hear this. Best wishes to you. How many hours per day is the dialysis? It sounds like both an ordeal and an inconvenience. Hang in there! We're all rooting for you.

I learned yesterday that because of several factors including my age and history of a heart attack I am not eligible for the kidney transplant list. I've been taking training on the dialysis machine and hope to transition soon from the current four times a day manual process to the overnight process using the machine. Later

Transplant news sucks, but moving to overnight method should be a major upgrade to hours or so if I understand correctly on the machine during the day. Battle on!

Yes it will be. Now I have to be home and schedule things around the four exchanges during the day. I feel like the dog tethered to a pole in the backyard.

With the machine, I'll be able to not only sleep later but take day trips. Don't know the start date, but I'm getting anxious to begin.

Keep up he good fight. The overnight dialysis machine should give you far more freedom to do things during the day. Hopefully, you can start it soon.
