Citi Field Scoreboard Improvement

Looks like they are removing the surrounding ads and just making the centerfield and rightfield scoreboards huge.

This has the potential to be the most meaningful upgrade to Citi Field…ever?

Good! The ads were ugly and who needs that piddle change from billboards when

there's now a mega-rich sheriff at the helm with deep pockets.

I mean really, did anyone use that freight company because they saw the ad?

I'm all choked up. And I love Steve Cohen. Also, superagent Scott Boras just dubbed Cohen as Steve "Kong".

And just a side note, I think Dominion Freight hauls the Mets stuff all

over the country so it could very well be that ad was gratis.

Insert Cholulu instead, 'El Schlitz de hot sauces...'

Loved the Cholula ads.

I mean, I didn't, but if there had to be ads up there, two big phallic Cholula bottles was alright with me.

It's a nice start. I'd bet anything that what Cohen would really like is to blow up the whole fucking clown show of a stadium and start from scratch.

The scoreboard update is about feeding programmatic ads. You don't have Getty or Budweiser up there all year long. You'll get a variety of brightly colored Hi-def ads like they did with the ribbons this year

I always thought those border ads looked chintzy, like something you'd see in a minor league stadium.

But yeah, now you're going to see giant Bud Light or Toyota ads between batters.

As for blowing up the whole stadium, that might really be a surprise for the Seavers.

No. It'd be like leaving the gun but taking the cannolis. He'll keep the statue and the original apple and whatever other cherished knickknacks the crass and philistine Wilpons didnt sell off.

The Pirates and Cards, to name two, transplanted statuary when they built their current ballparks.

Re: Citi Field Scoreboard Improvement

A little before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Edwin Díaz stepped into a large white tent at the Clover Park complex and entered a different world.

Inside, smoke machines were blowing and the area was mostly dark, save for a bright light illuminating what could best be described as a stage. A director was barking out orders to Darin Ruf, who had preceded Díaz into the tent. Swing the bat. Walk toward the camera. Walk away from the camera.

Then it was Díaz's turn. The director, Jake Smith, called over Mr. and Mrs. Met and positioned them in front of Díaz, trumpets in hand. Then he instructed each mascot to move aside, so that Díaz could emerge between them and strut toward the camera.

This is the scene that fans at Citi Field will see when Díaz enters games this season. If it feels like a movie set, that's because it essentially is. Over the past two years, the Mets have transformed their scoreboard introductions into veritable cinema, using 4K cameras to record players in front of elaborate backdrops. This year, a new, larger video board at Citi will allow the Mets to present those scenes even more vibrantly, which is partly why the team is dedicating greater resources to them.

Anthony DiComo on how what you'll see on that big-ass board comes together.

Re: Citi Field Scoreboard Improvement

Holy shit was that original scoreboard incarnation like the ugliest fucking scoreboard you ever saw in your whole fucking life. The only uglier scoreboard was the one right next to it, that was practically touching the main scoreboard. Whaddya expect when the idiot tyrant Jeff Wilpon insists on designing the stupid stadium? They couldn't have done any worse if they let Homer Simpson design Citi Field.

Re: Citi Field Scoreboard Improvement

From the New York Times - Steve Cohen on the new scoreboard and Citi Field in general:

Every king needs a castle befitting his stature, and Cohen, baseball's wealthiest owner, is having fun with Citi Field. “What I want to do is create a master plan,” Cohen said on the eve of the Mets' home opener. “I don't want to create a renovation of the stadium where everything doesn't really tie together.”

Oh my god. Are youse thinking what I'm thinking, hoping? Is Steve thinking what I'm hoping? Because talk about things that don't tie together. That's Citi Field to a tee, even before Cohen bought it. That's eff 'n Jeff's stupid fucking stadium.
