The news, from Irish…

2 years $15 million , good for him, and who wouldn't want to play out there

Heyman on it

The memories…

A lifesaver as a starter in injury-depleted 2016.

A lifesaver as the closer of choice when Diaz struggled in 2019.

He seemed to want to start. I'm just glad he pitched as a Met.

I kept thinking he'd gone as far as he could as a Met and I'm finally right.

Re: Memories of Seth Lugo

I remember the reporters telling us after he refused arm surgery, his arm "was being held on by a thread" and every pitch could be his last. That was several year ago.

He did a good job for us in multiple roles, including some roles he really wasn't meant for. I have always thought, and still think, that he's not a starting pitcher on a good team. But I will be happy for him if he proves me wrong.

Re: Memories of Seth Lugo

Legends should be written about he and Gselly bailing out the rotation in 2016. More sober analyses should be written about how they couldn't hold down rotation slots in 2017.

Sad-but-illuminating novels can be written about them being frustrated in their bullpen assignments thereafter.

I guess part of me thought he'd end up with the Cubs. It tends to sort of be where Mets starters who have been frustratingly consigned to the bullpen ultimately end up going.

Lugo also left the Mets because of Chris Young's vision. Lugo figures that eventually, Young's vision is sure to catch on with the Padres.

Eight times he was the Schaefer Mets Reliever of the Month. Only Jay-or-Reese Familia, with 12, has more.
