Ficticious story but evidently based on a true story that made news in Japan, NOBODY KNOWS follows a family of four kids, oldest 12, left to survive in a Tokyo flat after their creepy, ditzy mom abandons them. Though the subject is depressing it's not especially sad all the way through -- even though you know no good can come of their situation you're up and down with the kids' ingenuity and hope, since the movie is told from their perspective. Won lots of Festival awards and the lead actor is very good. Subtitles. 8 of 10
