IGT 5/2 vs. Washington: "Remember the Maine!"

I don't know where you guys get the lineups ahead of time, but I wanted to start this thread before heading home from work.

Gwreck

When I post the lineups, I get them straight from the MLB gameday. Lineups for games at Shea are typically available 30-40 minutes prior to gametime. At other parks, they're sometimes available earlier (Seattle has been known to have them up 90+ minutes before gametime).

I know that they are usually available to the media earlier. It's been a while since I've been to Shea for batting practice, but IIRC, the lineups are posted when the gates open (2.5 hrs before gametime).

I seem to remember at least once having a lineup posted here very early, courtesy someone who had access to a "MLB insider" private blog or something like that (?) which had a clubhouse source, I think.

Guess I gotta type faster. I get 'em from espn, cbssportsline, usatoday -
they're all pretty much the same only presented differently.

Maine allows a run off 2 doubles in the first.

Still, he looks pretty comfortable. Let's get him some runs.

1-0 bad guys B1.

Gwreck
May 02 2006 07:25 PM

LoDuca ties it!

TransMonk
May 02 2006 07:25 PM

KABOOM for Lo Duca!

1-1 tie, one out B1.

TransMonk
May 02 2006 07:41 PM

Maine works around 2 walks in the second with 2 Ks.

Paul (MVP) LoDuca picks off Ward between 2nd and 3rd as O'Conner misses a bunt.

Washington continuing to hurt themselves.

Soriano tattoos one with 1 on.

3-1 Nats, Top 3.

Maine is the first baseball player in history with a non-Washington surname that matches one of he fifty states.

No one like that has ever played in the NBA or NHL.

Gary gives us Russell Maryland and [something] Missouri to go with Joe from the NFL. Personally, I think he made the Missouri one up.

AFLAC: When was the last time the Mets won a regular season game on a pitcher's error? (Walkoff style)

Elster88
May 02 2006 08:13 PM

July 3, 1976 (Darold Knowles).

Get on it, Yancy.

Gary gave a shout out to metswalkoffs.com! Doesn't he post here?

An attempted pickoff of first with the bases loaded hits the runner in the arm and rolls into the outfield. Runner scores.

A tidbit from the ex-National-color guy.

Last year, in his first appearance after being traded to the Nationals, Stanton is brought in with first and third and does not throw a pitch. His attempted pickoff is a balk, game over.

I remember Aguilera balking in the winner back in the late eighties, I think. 1989?

Ryan O'Neal challenged my dad to a fight once.

Beltran can walk all year as far as I'm concerned.

It wasn't "intentional" but they were definetly pitching around Wright.

C'mon Cliff, feel disrespected.

Elster88

He may be 25, but he looks about 16. I think he went to elementary school with Lenny Harris.

If the lead runner of a double steal is thrown out, but the back runner takes second, is the back runner credited with a steal?

Another hard shot by Floyd with no results. Lineout to short.

Edit: After checking the rules, I amend my answer to "No."

In the opposite situation, if the trail runner is thrown out, the lead runner doesn't get credit for a stolen base.

Next Monday is Maine's 25th birthday.

92 pitches with Maine starting his 6th inning.

Why is Nick Johnson stealing bases?

Edgy DC
May 02 2006 08:37 PM

Nick Johnson has four steals?

Edgy DC
May 02 2006 08:38 PM

Maine's over 100 pitches and perhaps shouldn't have batted last inning.

Gwreck
May 02 2006 08:42 PM

We bring in the lefty to face Ward, and Frank Robinson counters by pinch-hitting Jose Guillen.

OE: ...who proceeds to hit an RBI groundout. 4-1 bad guys.

6-1 Nats.

Was Wright actually tossed? Radio guys thought just Willie.

Even if he wasn't tossed, might not be the worst thing for him to have the rest of the game off. Put Woodward in batting 9th.

TransMonk
May 02 2006 09:20 PM

Woodward in for Kaz as Julio comes in the game.

Yup. I agree. It's not the worst thing in the world to split a 2-game series against Washington, but our offense has to get on track.

]FLUSHING (FAFIF) -- Mike O'Connor didn't feign surprise at his success versus the New York Mets Tuesday night.

"The Mets?" the celebrated lefty asked after accepting congratulations from his Washington teammates. "Never heard of 'em."

When told that in fact the Mets had been in the National League since 1962 and have been leading its eastern division by a wide margin most of the year, the 25-year-old pitcher just shook his head.

"Nah," he said. "Doesn't ring a bell."

O'Connor swore he meant no disrespect to those who provided the nominal competition in his second Major League start: "Listen, you face teams all the time. Sometimes they're familiar, sometimes they aren't. Tonight was the first time I've ever seen the Nets."

Reminded that the Nets are a basketball team leading the Indiana Pacers in the NBA playoffs, O'Connor quickly corrected himself: "My bad. I meant, uh...I'm sorry, what's their name again?"

This has to be a joke right? These are made up quotes, right?I mean, he knows the names of all the teams?
