It seems like they can't come up with any 2-out, RISP hits lately.

I wonder what the record for most men LOB without scoring a run is?
|
Gwreck May 04 2006 07:51 PM |
Single, walk, single gets us the bases loaded with no outs. Time to cash them in.
|
cooby May 04 2006 08:04 PM |
A run on a walk!
|
Gwreck May 04 2006 08:10 PM |
...but that's it. 7 men left on in first 3 innings.
|
Edgy DC May 04 2006 08:12 PM |
Aflac trivia: Who was the last Met to hit a walkoff homer in the twefth inning or later.
|
Nymr83 May 04 2006 08:13 PM |
nobody out bases loaded and we can't bring a run home? thats bad baseball. (yes i know Nady walked in a run, but after that it was still the same situation, you gotta get more there)

9 K's in 5 innings. When did Glavine become a strikeout pitcher??
|
Gwreck May 04 2006 08:25 PM |
Intentional walk to the 8th hitter works.

OlerudOwned May 04 2006 08:34 PM |
This offense is so frustrating.

Edgy DC May 04 2006 08:43 PM |
Amazin' Tom Glavin'.
|
Gwreck May 04 2006 08:45 PM |
Correct answer to the Aflac question is indeed Agbayani...but as for regular-season, that requires going back aways -- last time that happened was 1996.
|
Gwreck May 04 2006 08:46 PM |
97 pitches for Glavine through 6.
|
Nymr83 May 04 2006 08:59 PM |
1st and 3rd with nobody out...lets get some runsssssss!

Issuing a warning to the Mets here is such horseshit.
|
Gwreck May 04 2006 09:17 PM |
Rather surprised to see Duaner come in. You'd think 6-0 would be Julio time.
|
Edgy DC May 04 2006 09:25 PM |
Shutouts are valuable things, even if six run pads aren't.
|
Edgy DC May 04 2006 09:26 PM |
Way cool to see a popup by the railing and Met fans backed away from it.
|
Edgy DC May 04 2006 09:27 PM |
Four hits for Wrighty.
|
Gwreck May 04 2006 09:32 PM |
Maybe it's a "closer" thing. Bring in Julio, tell him "pretend it's a 1-run lead, and you're in to close it out."
|
Edgy DC May 04 2006 09:35 PM |
What an answer by Jeromy Burnitz.
|
Edgy DC May 04 2006 09:38 PM |
Julio is really sick. If he gets consistent... wow.
|
Edgy DC May 04 2006 09:40 PM |
Damn, that slider. Wow! Nodody could touch it.

I know, right? 14.33 Innings 27 Strikeouts I mean, damn.
Well, Jeff Francoeur could. But the point holds. He could be awesome.

Good time at Big Shea tonite. I've now seen two Met games this year and seem Tom F. Glavine strike out 21 guys and X Nady hit two balls a combined 850 feet. Holy shit!
|
metirish May 04 2006 11:22 PM |
Cool game to watch on the box, Glavine is pitching from memory it seems, great to see.

Agreed. Unfortunately, it's in one ear and out the other.
|
Edgy DC May 05 2006 09:41 AM |
The thing is that he wasn't whining, as so many people seem to accuse anybody who responds to boos (as if provoking a response isn't part of the point. He accepted full responsiblity for his performance, knew full well how his salarly contextualized his performance, stated that he was beating up on himself more than they were, but... it was a miserable time to be so hated when all he wanted to do was perform well, and the negativity of the atmosphere was brutal.
|
Elster88 May 05 2006 09:47 AM |
He also said something along the lines of "you can't understand how it feels until it happens to you". A comment like that also, especially if some fool "reporter" takes it out of context, comes off as whiny. But it really wasn't whiny and makes sense to me. I hope to never have tens of thousands of people booing the hell out of me.

What are you guys talking about?
|
soupcan May 05 2006 10:03 AM |
|
Agreed. He knew he was making an outrageous sum of money and he knew he stunk. He knew he deserved the boos from the fans, said it wasn't pleasent but accepted it and held no grudges against the fans nor did he act petulant towards them. That's how it should be.

Burnitz interveiw snippet about how difficult it was to play here making huge amounts of money, not perform well and be booed.

Watching Burnitz struggle in 02 was hard on us too.

I went looking for the interview, but MLB.tv, despite giving me the Metscast last night, is giving me the Buccast on replay. It was about the sixth seventh inning, for those of you who can get a SNY or Tivo replay.
|
Yancy Street Gang May 05 2006 10:28 AM |
Maybe Pedro can start breathing on Zambrano.
|
metirish May 05 2006 11:23 AM |
Burnitz also said the idea that playing bad in NY is tougher than say playing crab in Pittsburgh is basically BS, you still get booed, still it was a good interview.

I'm not certain, but I think I inadvertantly deleted and Elster88 post when I meant to delete one of my own.

Darling made a point that bringing in Julio to finish the game may be a boost to his confidence. He closes out a shutout, gets to be involved in a win, and shakes hands as if he is the closer. Interesting point. I hope there is some carry-over.
|
metirish May 05 2006 11:35 AM |
Yes and Lo Duca talking to Julio after the final SO like he was the closer, lets hope this keeps up, we'll need him in tight spots during the season.

Yes we have beaten the crap out of this argument but I'll humor you. If he realizes already how badly he is performing, and is beating himself up more than you ever could, what on earth is the point of your booing? Maybe the point is expressing frustration and reminded the player just how blessed he is. The player is making $100 million no matter how bad he's doing. Average Joe is busting his ass every day to pay his bills. If Joe doesn't perform Joe doesn't get paid. If the player doesn't perform he still buys another Bentley in the offseason. I'll admit that a lot of it is jealousy. Fans think that if someone is being so well paid to play a game - no matter how poorly they play - that it is unfair, and this is how they express that. In the real world no matter how hard you work if you are not successful you don't get paid. Not necessarily so in sports. Isn't it (booing) really just to make yourself (the booer) feel better at the expense of how the player is feeling? Booing doesn't make me feel better or worse. It's just an expression. I for one think that if a player has the balls to sign a contract like that then he is making the statement that he has the intestinal fortitude to overcome any sad feelings he might get if he is booed because he is not performing up to the standards set by him when he signed that deal. If he doesn't have that kind of grit then too bad for his feelings - he shouldn't have signed that deal. He's still going to be retired by 40 and set up future generations of his family for the rest of their lives. Kinda hard to feel bad for a guy like that.
