Fuckshit - blink and it's a 1-0 Braves lead. A double and two ground outs get the first Braves run across the plate.

ScarletKnight41
May 05 2006 07:18 PM

MisspelledAndrew's errant swing hits LoDuca's wrist.

TransMonk
May 05 2006 07:22 PM

I want to beat Davies bad...I hope we knock him around tonight.

ScarletKnight41

Carlos Beltran says, "Fuck You Atlanta Lead!"

TransMonk

KABOOM for Carlos!

No, the other one.

Bravos take the lead back in the top of the second on a McCann double scoring BJ.

2-1 hated Braves after 1.5.

ScarletKnight41
May 05 2006 08:07 PM

Trax strikes out MisspelledAndrew to end the top of the third. Still 2-1 bad guys.

GYC
May 05 2006 08:09 PM

Reyes = fast.

ScarletKnight41
May 05 2006 08:10 PM

Jose is on first with a bunt single.

ScarletKnight41
May 05 2006 08:11 PM

Reyes to second on a wild pitch.

TransMonk
May 05 2006 08:20 PM

Davies walks in a run in the 3rd.

2-2 tie, bases loaded, one out!

TransMonk
May 05 2006 08:21 PM

Floyd promptly hits into a DP.

2-2 end of three.

Gwreck
May 05 2006 08:38 PM

TBS Answer: Lonnie Smith. 5 WS, 4 Teams, 3 Rings.

TransMonk
May 05 2006 08:39 PM

After four, still tied at 2.

Mets have left 7 on base. Reyes is 3 for 3.

Gwreck
May 05 2006 08:39 PM

Chip Caray continues his LoDuca-lovefest.

"Out of all of these Mets, this is the guy you don't want to see up with runners in scoring position."

Uh, Chip, I like LoDuca a lot too, but are you serious?

MFS62
May 05 2006 08:44 PM

Let us guess - the guy he wants to see up with runners in scoring position is..
(the envelope, please)

Cliff Floyd.

Later

Gwreck
May 05 2006 08:53 PM

No, he was talking from Atlanta's perspective. Chip (and broadcast partner) actively root for Atlanta throughout the broadcast.

MFS62
May 05 2006 09:02 PM

That's what I meant. Any Atlanta fan would love to have Floyd coming up for the Mets with runners on base, the way he's not been hitting.

Crap - Brian Jordon scores on Brian McCann's 2-out single.

ScarletKnight41
May 05 2006 09:04 PM

And McCann scores on MispronouncedDiaz's single :(

TransMonk
May 05 2006 09:07 PM

Kaz saves an eventual run with a nice tag on a stolen base attempt by Francoeur.

Willie let Trachs pitch to both McCann and Diaz with 1st base open.

4-2 bad guys mid 6.

Nymr83
May 05 2006 09:07 PM

we need runs damnit

ScarletKnight41
May 05 2006 09:08 PM

Larry makes a nice catch to rob Nady of a hit.

TransMonk
May 05 2006 09:08 PM

Grrrr... I hate you, Larry.

Takes a double away from Nady on a diving grab.

Johnny Dickshot
May 05 2006 09:08 PM

We oughta have about 8 runs by now.

Nymr83
May 05 2006 09:12 PM

Tom McCarthy just accused David Glass (what team does he own?) of being "notorious" for pocketing revenue-sharing after he cracked that he was out of patience but not out of money because he doesnt spend any.

Gwreck

David Glass is the Royals' owner.

TransMonk
May 05 2006 09:26 PM

8 runs might not be enough anyway as Bradford allows 2 runs in the 7th.

Bravos still batting with 2 outs and Feliciano coming in.

Matsui saves another run with a heads up play on the infield resulting in a FC at the plate.

TransMonk
May 05 2006 09:28 PM

McCann flies out to Nady...6-2 Braves at the stretch.

ScarletKnight41
May 05 2006 09:28 PM

X-Man makes a great catch to end the inning.

TransMonk
May 05 2006 09:33 PM

Alright, Reyes 4 for 4 with a single. LoDuca extends his hit streak to 8 with a GR Double.

2nd and 3rd no outs...Beltran, Delgado and Wright to follow.

Davies is yanked.

Johnny Dickshot
May 05 2006 09:36 PM

Rally.

TransMonk
May 05 2006 09:38 PM

E6 for Edgar from Beltran.

Delgado singles.

6-4 now, still no outs. McBride is yanked.

Rally.

Gwreck
May 05 2006 09:43 PM

C'mon Kaz. Anything but the double-play should tie it.

TransMonk
May 05 2006 09:43 PM

Floyd rolls an RBI single through the infield.

Runners advance on a passed ball.

Walk to Nady, bases loaded for Kaz with one out. Down by a run.

Nymr83
May 05 2006 09:43 PM

6-5.
wild pitch and an intentional walk to Nady make it 6-5, bases loaded for Kaz Matsui.

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream
of what I need

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder end rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there's someone somewhere
Watching me

Through the wind end the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like the fire in my blood

X-Man leads off the 9th with a walk.

KazMat at bat.

ScarletKnight41

Chris Woodward is up as a pinch-hitter.

Mets 9th:

Matsui sacrifices, Nady to 2nd
Woodie to pinch hit.

ScarletKnight41

They're walking Reyes to get to LoDuca. No 6-6 opportunity for him tonight.

Not Woodward, Lo Duca. Lo Duca is seriously beginning to piss me off.

OE: Day-after-night is a good point against Castro over Lo Duca anyway.

Gwreck
May 05 2006 10:37 PM

Sandman uses 7 pitches, enabling him to go another inning, no problem.

But let's make that unnecessary, Carlos, hmmkay?

Edgy DC
May 05 2006 10:42 PM

Didn't happen.

Moylan is a lot like Heilman. Silmilar arm angle. Bottom drops out of the inside change the same way.

GYC
May 05 2006 10:44 PM

Forgot about Betemit, now the Braves have only Pratt off the bench and Reitsma out of the bullpen.

TransMonk

Lido missed the boat
That day he left the shack
But that was all he missed
He ain't comin' back

At a tombstone bar
In a juke-joint car he made a stop
Just long enough
To grab a handle off the top
Next stop Chi'town
Lido put the money down
Let her roll
He say, "one more job oughta get it
One last shot 'fore we quit it"

One for the road

Lido, whoa-oh-oh-oh....
He's for the money, he's for the show
Lido's a-waitin' for another go
Lido, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh....
He said, "one more job oughta get it"
"One last shot, we quit it"

Havin' great big fun 'til he got the note
Sayin' "toe the line or blow it"
And that was all she wrote
He be makin' like a beeline,
Headin' for the borderline, goin' for broke
Sayin, "one more hit oughta do it"
"This joint, ain't nothin' to it"

Don't wanna wait 'til tomorrow
Why put it off another day?
One by one, little problems
Build up, and stand in our way. Oh

One step ahead, one step behind it
Now ya gotta run to get even
Make future plans I'll dream about yesterday, hey!
Come on turn, turn this thing around

(Right now) Hey! It's your tomorrow
(Right now) Come on, it's everything
(Right now) Catch your magic moment
Do it right here and now
It means everything

Miss a beat, you lose a rhythm
An nothin' falls into place. No!
Only missed by a fraction
Slipped a little off your pace. Oh!

The more things you get, the more you want
Just trade in one for another
Workin' so hard to make it easy
Whoa, got to turn. Come on, turn this thing around

(Right now) Hey, it's your tomorrow
(Right now) Come on, it's everything
(Right now) catch that magic moment
Do it right here and now
It means everything

Said a lie to me
Right now
What are ya waitin' for? Oh! Yeah!
Right now

(Guitar Solo)

(Right now) Hey! It's your tomorrow
(Right now) Come on, it's everything
(Right now) Catch that magic moment
And do it right, right now (Right now)
Oh, right now!

It's what's happening
Right here and now
Right now, it's right now
Oh!
Tell me, what are ya waitin' for?
Turn this thing around

Albums remind me of plans
Tonight it’s love by the fire
The wind plays over the coals
Passionate looks are my fancy
But you turn the look into stone

If I didn’t love you
Would you sit and glow by the fire
If I didn’t love you
Would you make me feel so
Maybe love me
Oh if I didn’t love you

If I didn’t love you I’d hate you
Cocoa mugs sit side by side
It’s time to poke at the fire
But it’s not tonight
Looks I find
Taking a bite on a biscuit
The record jumps on a scratch
Tonight it’s love by the fire
The door of your love’s on the latch

If i, if i, if i
Didn’t, didn’t, didn’t
Love you, love you, love you

Delgado has made a few nice plays at first tonight, especially for a guy that isn't supposed to be very good defensively.

Mets coming to bat in the 13th. Time to end this one guys. Score a run and send everyone home happy.

KazMat bunts him over. Again.

If it was 2005, we could've had Roberto Hernandez as the emergency catcher.

Maine is Gimpy.

I doubt Glavine would be at first. He or Zambrano would go to weakside outfielder and Xavier Nady would play first.

Nymr83
May 06 2006 12:13 AM

who IS the emergency catcher?

MLB should have a rule that you can use the bullpen catcher but only if your other 2 catchers are out of the game (kinda like the 3rd QB in the NFL, if you use him before the 4th you can't go back to anyone else or something like that)

old original jb
May 06 2006 12:16 AM

What a game.
So much to love. (good D, the pen except for Wagner, great comebacks, huge rally, Floyd's homerun --which he missed by only a few feet in the prior at bat.) I also love how Keith let his hair down in the booth--this time without putting his foot in his mouth so much (although some might not have appreciated his geezer imitation).

And so much that was disturbing. (Runners left on, missed opportunities, and most of all Billy Wagner giving up the longball. By the way, what's a Betamit?)

I'll sure take the W, but is anyone worried about the closer?

Say it with me... Loo.... ah, never mind.

Frayed Knot

Edgy DC
May 06 2006 12:21 AM

]who IS the emergency catcher?

Chris Woodward, when available.

]MLB should have a rule that you can use the bullpen catcher but only if your other 2 catchers are out of the game (kinda like the 3rd QB in the NFL, if you use him before the 4th you can't go back to anyone else or something like that)

I like wars of attrition. I never heard that NFL rule. I wouldn't like that.

Part of the great fun of sports is seeing people stretched beyond the challenge of their comfort zone.

Centerfield
May 06 2006 12:38 AM

That was a good game.

Great hustle by Beltran to get to second. Otherwise, he would have had to stop at 3rd and we might still be playing.

Gwreck
May 06 2006 12:39 AM

After Woodward, I bet Wright would do the best job at catcher, I just don't ever want him playing there. Zambrano had probably gone home by the time he would've been needed, so Glavine in the OF would've been the solution. Definetly no Pedro in the field.

Gwreck
May 06 2006 12:42 AM

Should also be noted that with the win, Mets now have best record in baseball again (tied with ChiSox).

Frayed Knot
May 06 2006 12:48 AM

Yeah it def wouldn't be Zamby as he's pitching the next day.

Woodward's possible for the 3rd backstop in a generic way but he had already come and gone by that point.

The 3rd catcher call might not be as tuff as figuring out which pitcher goes in and where. Glavine seems like the best athlete although you'd hardly want him throwing a lot the day after he pitched. Trax might be next but of course not tonight either. Who knows about Maine and I'd tie Pedro's showlaces to the bench before allowing him out of the dugout on non-game days.

So it would almost certainly have to be Glavine, or else do a Oliver/Julio switching between the mound and a position (1st of OF) depending on the hand-ed-ness of the batter stunt.

G-Fafif
May 06 2006 07:50 AM

Delgado caught five innings early in his career. Once Woody and Castro were used and had Lo Duca been forced to leave (and I assume it would have to have been at gunpoint), I had CD behind the plate, Nady going to first and Glavine in right.

Edgy DC
May 06 2006 08:51 AM
Edited 1 time(s), most recently on May 06 2006 09:04 AM

I could live with losing a game having Nady behind the plate, over the marginally experienced Delgado, a lot longer than I could live if Delgado got hurt.

Emergency catchers should be your most disposable player. That's probably Matsui, with um, a pitcher in the outfield, Wright at second, and Nady at third.

That's the ticket!

May 06 2006 08:53 AM
