A 1-2-3 top of the first for Zambrano. Keep it up!
TransMonk May 06 2006 01:16 PM |
Zambrano effective in the first, striking out Giles and Larry.
ScarletKnight41 May 06 2006 01:19 PM |
Reyes leads off with a double.
TheOldMole May 06 2006 01:19 PM |
Suddenly Reyes can't stop hitting.
TheOldMole May 06 2006 01:24 PM |
I love Delgado.
ScarletKnight41 May 06 2006 01:24 PM |
Delgado knocks in Reyes for the first run of the game.
OlerudOwned May 06 2006 01:33 PM |
Zambrano may be allergic to pitching well, it seems as if his arm is hurting.
ScarletKnight41 May 06 2006 01:33 PM |
Ugh - it looks like there's something wrong with Zambrano's arm :(
ScarletKnight41 May 06 2006 01:34 PM |
Zambrano strikes out MisspelledAndrew and then ran off the mound and into the clubhouse.
TheOldMole May 06 2006 01:35 PM |
What's with Z?
ScarletKnight41 May 06 2006 01:35 PM |
We don't know what's wrong. But something is bothering him.
TransMonk May 06 2006 01:36 PM |
Darren Oliver, what you got Darren? 6 or 7 innings?
martin May 06 2006 01:37 PM |
maybe he has an upset stomach or something, he didnt look like anything was wrong otherwise physically. that could certainly make him run off the mound like that.
Gwreck May 06 2006 01:39 PM |
Willie went out 6 pitches into the misspelledAndrew at-bat -- looked like he had bothered something -- thought it was neck, but could've been arm
TransMonk May 06 2006 01:40 PM |
Helluva line though: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K
OlerudOwned May 06 2006 01:42 PM |
Oliver is no Zambrano.
TransMonk May 06 2006 01:42 PM |
Ouch, Darren Oliver - the new/old John Maine.
GYC May 06 2006 01:46 PM |
What will the rotation look like if it is serious? Pedro - Glavine - Trachsel - Heilman - Lima, and then keep Fortunato up?
OlerudOwned May 06 2006 01:49 PM |
OlerudOwned May 06 2006 01:52 PM |
Damn, Marcus Giles is everywhere.
Gwreck May 06 2006 01:54 PM |
There's also Jeremi Gonzalez, at Norfolk.
Yancy Street Gang May 06 2006 01:56 PM |
I thought the same thing. But he wouldn't have been calmly discussing that on the mound a few pitches before, I wouldn't think. Telling Willie and the trainer, "I really have to poop badly." "Well, Victor, get this last batter out and then we'll let you go potty."
TransMonk May 06 2006 01:58 PM |
LMAO!
TheOldMole May 06 2006 01:58 PM |
Mets starting rotation looking less like the Maine, and more like the Titanic?
Edgy DC May 06 2006 01:58 PM |
Blessing of blessings, Oliver is on today.

Yancy Street Gang May 06 2006 02:02 PM |
And Fortunado is in the house? Is that correct?
Yancy Street Gang May 06 2006 02:04 PM |
Watching the replay it looked like Zambrano charged for the dugout before he even saw the result of the pitch. If it had been grounded back to the mound he wouldn't have been there to field it.
TheOldMole May 06 2006 02:04 PM |
You can say "stomach flu."

Allright Beltran!

It's not even a question. They can call it whatever they want -- Corporate.com ballpark, but they gotta have the Apple/hat.

KC May 06 2006 02:15 PM |
"discomfort in his elbow"

TransMonk May 06 2006 02:17 PM |
Oliver rolling through the 4th...how much gas does he have?
Yancy Street Gang May 06 2006 02:19 PM |

They should keep every ding and dent. It adds character to the thing, especially since just about every dent was caused by a home run. (Some may have been caused by ground rule doubles.)

MFS62 May 06 2006 02:29 PM |
Yahoo sorts is reporting that Zambrano left the game because of a right elbow injury. This is one game where the bullpen is stretched so thin that the team was depending on him to gut it out and eat some innings.
OlerudOwned May 06 2006 02:30 PM |
Oliver strikes out the side, he has 6 on the game.
KC May 06 2006 02:31 PM |
The O-man is picking up the Z-man nicely.
TransMonk May 06 2006 02:31 PM |
Can Oliver start tomorrow, too?
Gwreck May 06 2006 02:31 PM |
55 pitches for Oliver and he's scheduled to lead off. I think he hits, they get at least 1 more inning out of him.
OlerudOwned May 06 2006 02:33 PM |
Leadoff double for Oliver. Hot damn.

Gwreck May 06 2006 02:34 PM |

TheOldMole May 06 2006 03:17 PM |
Mets. I love you. One guy after another picks them up, Yay Kaz! And now walking the bases loaded to pitch to Delgado? A smart move? Perhaps not.

Frayed Knot May 06 2006 03:19 PM |
That's all for Hudson as KazMat sends him up the river
duan May 06 2006 03:20 PM |
it should probably go elsewhere, but if they DON'T start thinking about stretching Heillman out to go as a starter when they might be going to the 8th/9th starting pitcher on our depth chart it's just pig headedness.
Edgy DC May 06 2006 03:20 PM |
I wish Matsui was looking to pull like that more. I thik he's mentally programmed himself too much to look to be a salp-and-run table setter. He even took the previous pitch at 3-1 in the same spot.
TransMonk May 06 2006 03:26 PM |
I disagree, Heilman is far more valuable as a reliever, no matter who the starting pitching is. Who cares if we are going to the 8th or 9th starter on the DC if we are leading the NL in victories and ERA. Don't fix it until it's broke.
Frayed Knot May 06 2006 03:28 PM |

Willie should double-switch again and put Woodward in at 2nd.

The blue caps also netted me three blue cap mug shots: Julio, Oliver, and, at long last, Matsui.

Wow. What a great game to see in person! It was a beautiful day at the park and after last night's 14-inning game, all 45K+ fans were pretty spunky. Some dude in a Pujols jersey caught Franceour's HR, which prompted a stadium-wide chant of "Throw it back." The Evil Redbirds fan refused, and was treated to some good-natured heckling from my secion throughout the rest of the game. A tennager in a Crawford jersey was interviewed by the female SNY reporter in our section, and he got a little ribbing too, as peeps in our section started a "Take it off!" chant (refering to the kid's jersey, not the reporter, you lecherous pervs).
TheOldMole May 06 2006 07:42 PM |
With Julio rounding into form, they can spare Heilman in the bullpen.

Frayed Knot May 06 2006 07:54 PM |

I dunno what to think about Zambrano. Sprinting off the mound like that complaining of elbow pain just screams; 'Call Dr. Andrews and we'll see you in 18 months' -- but that's a get bit a head of ourselves at this point.
My first thought too but he actually tripped - twice even - trying to break out of the box. He was def a loafer earlier in his career (I was watching a TBS game one night when Cox pulled him in the middle of an inning a la Gil/Cleon) but has been much better behaved for the last few years. Not sure if the trip caused an injury or not. Good thing for us either way; he probably gets to Nady's bloop which started the big inning (plays shallower, gets a better break) so there's no telling how the rest of that inning plays out.

I noticed this too at the game today. I've got more comments that I'll paste tomorrow. But regarding the crowd and Julio, they did boo the hell out of him after the run scored, but as he was getting strikes on the last batter the "get the last strikes standing-O" was going full blast with nary a boo. A great freaking crowd. Announced attendance was 48,000+.
