KTE: Braves @ Mets

You need me to tell you about these guys? It’s the Braves. You know, the guys who have been kicking the Mets’ collective asses since moving to the NL East in 1994. But that’s all going to change this year, right? So far, no team has taken an advantage in the season series, splitting the six games played in April.

Upcoming Starters
May 5: Steve Trachsel (2-2, 4.72 ERA; career v. Braves 11-15, 4.88 ERA) v. Kyle Davies (2-2, 4.70 ERA; career v. Mets 3-0, 1.69 ERA). Trachsel couldn’t make it out of the fourth inning in his last start, his shortest appearance since he was knocked out after three innings against Florida in May 2004. Trachsel followed that start up with a 5.1 inning, four run game, again against the Marlins, in his start following the blow-out.
May 6: Victor Zambrano (1-2, 7.20 ERA; career v. Braves 2-4, 5.01 ERA) v. Tim Hudson (2-2, 4.54 ERA; career v. Mets 4-0, 1.70 ERA). Zambrano only allowed one run in his last start. Zambrano has not allowed one run or less in consecutive starts since he was with Tampa in June of 2004.
May 7: John Maine (0-1, 6.75 ERA; career v. Braves 0-0, 0.00 ERA) v. Jorge Sosa (0-4, 6.65 ERA; career v. Mets 0-1, 7.50 ERA). Jose Lima is a rumored replacement for John Maine in this game after Lima was pulled after only 26 pitches in Norfolk yesterday. Sosa has also been rumored to be bumped to the bullpen if Horacio Ramirez is ready to come off the DL, but that seems unlikely to happen by Sunday.

Who’s Hot for Atlanta:

Catcher Brian McCann is 6 for his last 17 with four walks over the past week, for a .500 OBP. The Joneses have both been solid. Andruw is hitting .303/.414/.565 over his last seven games. Larry has hit a respectable .280/.379/.480 in the past week. Edgar Renteria has been setting a nice table on the top of Atlanta’s lineup, getting on base at a .387 clip over the past seven games.

Who’s Not Hot for Atlanta:

Marcus Giles, however, has done a terrible job in the lead off spot for Atlanta all season, especially in the past week. Giles is 6 for his last 32 with 0 walks for a .188/.188/.219. The young Braves outfielders have also struggled. Jeff Francoeur has one good game a week, but not good enough to improve his .276/.276/.379 over his last seven games. Ryan Langerhans has only four hits in his last 18 at-bats, for a batting line of .222/.222/.300.

Tonight (7:10 pm): 74 degrees and mostly cloudy. I’ll be the guy in the Mezzanine wearing a Roger Cedeno t-shirt.
Tomorrow (1:10 pm): 66 degrees and mostly sunny.
Sunday (1:10 pm): 66 degrees and mostly sunny.

I don't know what's more surprising... that they actually printed Roger Cedeno shirts, that someone bought one, or that you'd actually wear it for something other than painting the house.

You must have taken good care of it! Have a good time tonight :)

Perfect. I'll be there Saturday in the Loge in my Piazza T-shirt.

Bought it in a Mets clubhouse shop for $5 about a year and a half ago.

I was at Mofreakindell's a few weeks ago, when the buzz on Matsui was that he was such an embarrassment the Mets were hoping to do anything and everything not to activate him. I went to by some Matstuffi, and was shocked to learn it was all full price.

Modell's knew he was going to turn around and bring something foreward. They always know.

Specifically, your PIAZZA 31 footie pajamas.

The Braves recently picked up former Met Tyler Yates - signing him to a minor league deal.

I bet he becomes the next Mike Scott.

you reckon;

and what pray tell makes you think Mr Yates has it in him to become one of the greatest songwriters ever born. http://www.mikescottwaterboys.com/

I admire the faith of the fans who would go to Shea on Saturday knowing what the pitching matchup is.

I have to admit, I was considering making the trip, but I balked because of the pitching matchup.

I'm not a "faith" kind of guy, I guess.

I need duan to bring up Scott/the Waterboys on the NBF, and perhaps sponsor them in the BLC.

I'm not overly enthused about any of our three starters this series-- to win this one with those guys on the hill would be sweet.

I'm willing to accept one win out of three.

Cool idea, they could go against the Pogues or the Clash.

Zambrano is going to pitch a no-hitter.

And hit for the cycle while going 5-5.

The fifth hit will be that bunt single he so desperately wants.

I'll be at the game tomorrow too. My historical track record is something like .350 W%, so I'm not optimistic. On the season so far, I'm 0-1 with a rainout.

Still, I haven't had a chance to chant "Larry!" for a while, and it's supposed to be a beautiful day, so at least I've got that going for me.

Cool I'll get to see that tomorrow.

Apparently the whole 'Lima thing' was that Maine had some kind of "finger issue" they were monitoring for a bit but has since blown over (I forget which paper mentioned it). It seems that Lima may have been pulled early from his last AAA start in case Maine couldn't go - something that's no longer on the radar screen.

Damn. I already set my watch to 'Lima time'.

Andruw has a bad back and that's why he was pulled from the game. He won't start tomorrow.

Smoltz will get the nod for the Braves on 3 days rest after Sosa pitched in Saturday's game.

I guess taking 2 of 3 from the Braves, without starting Pedro or Glavine, is pretty cool.
