“Red Means Go” is the 2006 Phillies slogan, and they are taking it to heart. The Phillies are hot, and the Mets better be ready, because they have their work cut out for them in this series.

A little about the Phillies new ballpark, Citizens Bank Park. Completed in 2004, it holds 43500 fans in that many sapphire blue seats. In answer to Shea Stadium’s HR Big Apple, Citizens Bank Park boasts a 50 foot Liberty Bell that rings when a Phillie hits a homerun.

Their mascot remains the Phillie Phanatic.

Here’s the Phillies usual starting lineup:

C-Carlos Ruiz/Sal Fasano
1B-Ryan Howard
2B-Chase Utley
SS-Jimmy Rollins
3B-David Bell
LF-Pat Burrell
CF-Aaron Rowand
RF-Bobby Abreu

Probable Pitchers:

Tues:
Mets-Pedro Martinez RHP (5-0)
Phillies-Brett Myers RHP (2-1)

Wed:
Mets-Tom Glavine LHP (4-2)
Phillies-Cory Lidle RHP (3-3)

Thurs:
Mets-Steve Trachsel RHP (2-2)
Phillies-Gavin Floyd RHP (3-2)

The Phillies closer is Tom Gordon, and he is doing quite well with 10 saves in 10 opportunities.

Phillies injuries are pitcher Randy Wolf, who is out until midseason recovering from elbow surgery, and catcher Mike Lieberthal, on the 15 day DL with a knee injury

Weather predictions are for Partly Cloudy Tuesday and Wednesday, and showers possible Thursday.

All games start at 7:05

The Phillies occupy second place in the National League East, 4 games behind the New York Mets, and are currently enjoying an eight game winning streak.
Their record is 17 and 14.

Brett myers is trying to promote his new bad-assed dangerous serious self.

Bret Myers this season:

Geez, Brett, the marriage go south.

Nice job on the KTE.

The Mets are runnig into a red hot Phillies team. At least the Mets have Pedro and Glavine going in this series, which should greatly improve the Mets chances. The back end of the Mets rotation scares me. I'm starting to feel like the old Boston Braves fans when the cry was "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain."

He looks like Matt LeBlanc making stupid Joey Tribbiani expressions.

I was thinking the same thing in the shower this morning and trying to come up with a rhyme. The best I could do was "Martinez and Glavine, the rest ain't worth havin'". Kind of harsh I know. Maybe "Pedro and Tom and hope for new arms from the farm."?

Yancy Street Gang

Pedro and Tommy then cry for Mommy.

Petey and Glave, and three fattened calves?

Petey & Tom, then prepare to get bombed?

Well, at least this year we can count Glavine as a positive

Steve, Pedro and Glavine, then its tryouts we're havin'.

Nice job, Cooby. Now you know what its like to do a Phillies KTE.

Thanks. It was pretty easy, though.

Phils currently on an 8-game winning streak.

By tomorrow morning that will no longer be true.

The Philadelphia Phillies are the only national league team without an ex-Met on their roster.

Aside from the obvious, Endy Chavez also played some games as a Phillie last year.

OE: see below, forgot one, nice catch Edgy.

Yancy Street Gang
May 09 2006 03:34 PM

I suspect that they have at least one future Met. Here's a prediction: Pat Burrell will become a Met when he's 39.

Edgy DC
May 09 2006 03:37 PM

Wow. After years of Pratt, no ex-Mets at all.

Has a rival ever been so easy to root against?

OE: Wait a dadgum minute. Cory Lidle is still there, isn't he?

Yancy Street Gang
May 09 2006 03:44 PM

I had no trouble rooting against Whitey Herzog's Cardinals.

Or the 1984 Cubs, for that matter.

Whoops. Yes, Lidle is still there.

After careful double-checking, only teams without ex-Mets are the White Sox, Red Sox, and Twins

Good job Cooby....I'm stoked(that's so American) about this series.

excellent job cooby!

I read one somewhere this past week-

Tommy, Steve and 'Dro, and then pray for snow.

I thought that was reaching--I like some of the ones here better.

]I suspect that they have at least one future Met. Here's a prediction: Pat Burrell will become a Met when he's 39.

Burrell can swing a mean bat at times, but he may be the worst left fielder in cletes.
Maybe he just feels cramped in that lil acre they call left field at the Citizens Bandbox.
He plays left in Philly like he's afraid of his shadow.

I dont want him a Met-the guys a bum.
However, Burrell has 31 homers and 82 RBIs in 365 lifetime at-bats against the Metsies.

Come to think of it, I thought Von Hayes was a bum too.

Was it '86 or '88 when the Phils were a real thorn in the Mets side all season?

Yancy Street Gang
May 09 2006 04:28 PM

The Mets had no thorns in 1986 until Mike Scott in October.

You may be remembering the three-game sweep at the Vet in September of 1986. The Mets went down there needing one win to clinch the NL East, and the Phillies and their fans were very proud that they were able to deny them a clincher on their artificial turf.

My friend and I thought it was a lock that they would not get swept in that Philly series in '86 and we wanted to see them clinch. We drove down from Syracuse that morning to see the game.

As Yancy said - there were no real problem teams for the Mets that year but we sure as hell weren't too pleased with them on our long ride back to school that night.

Willets Point

Yes the Phillies were the only team with a winning record against the Mets winning 10 of 18 games. I guessed that helped them nab 2nd place in the NL East.

I was there, all 3 games.
Schmidt hit a homer off Gooden that seemed like it went on a straight line from his bat to the stands in center. No hang time.

One a those years the Phils beat the Mets more than any other team, or close to it.

On a side note to the KTE-

Tom Gordon as Phils closer, from what Ive seen of him, is no fluke.
He has had rediculously nasty stuff this year.
He has been flawless.

thnx for the info W.P.

I thought so--cuz I went to alot a games that year in Philly and was pissed they lost so many times.
I had this streak going in the early to mid 80's where whenever I went to a Met game in Philly, the Mets won.

On a side note to metirish-Over here pissed means angry ;)
