Barbados Tourism and New York Mets Announce Partnership

Three-Year Promotion Includes All-Expense Paid Trips to Barbados for Mets Fans


NEW YORK, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) has signed on with the New York Mets, to promote the Caribbean island at home and away games through the 2008 baseball season. The deal the chance for New York Mets fans to win all-expense paid trip giveaways to Barbados each season.

"We are very pleased to be partnering with the Barbados Tourism Authority," said Dave Howard, Executive Vice President, Business Operations, New York Mets. "This agreement provides a unique opportunity to add to the excitement of New York Mets home games and further drive our fans' awareness of one of the Caribbean's most beautiful islands."

The "Mets Lucky Home Run Inning presented by Barbados" will provide one lucky fan the chance to win a complimentary getaway to this Caribbean hot spot when a Mets player hits a home run during the specially designated inning. A single contestant is randomly selected among the fans in attendance at all 81 games played at Shea Stadium. Fans watching the locally broadcast road games on SportsNet New York (SNY) or WPIX/WB 11 can also participate by registering online at http://www.sny.tv/barbados.

"The Barbados Tourism Authority is excited to be working with this world renowned baseball team," said Bill Silvermintz, Vice President of Marketing for the Americas, Barbados Tourism Authority. The Barbados-Mets partnership will provide each fan attending the games with the unique opportunity of seeing all that the island has to offer."

The BTA is also inviting New York Mets Season Ticket Holders to an exclusive New York Mets-themed weekend in Barbados. The offer will entice these committed fans with a one-of-a-kind gift bag packed with New York Mets souvenirs, a voucher redeemable for two free tickets to a future Mets game and Mets autographed memorabilia. Participants will also be treated to a special appearance by a New York Mets player during the weekend-long festivities.

So you're interpreting that to mean that someone watching SNY off DirecTV in New Mexico would be ineligible?

That link isn't working (for me at least). Yes, Yancy, only us SNY viewers can go to Barbados and be free of those DirecTV New Mexico types.

I followed the link and it told me that "You, Edgy, are not eligible."

No, but it did say, "Open to residents of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry."

The best thing about Barbados is that you can tour a rum factory (brewery?), taste samples and buy bottles, and then sit on the beach a few yards away and enjoy the sun, water and wonderful aroma.

Nice place.
