New job

cooby
May 05 2006 08:22 AM

Starting May 15 I will be working in a new office. It is full time, and I haven't worked full time since 1983! So it will be quite a change for me.

Leaving Woolrich behind...

MFS62
May 05 2006 08:36 AM

OH NOOOOOOOOOOO!
Who is going to cheerfully fill all those orders? (And then post what you really should have said here.)

Best of luck in the new gig, Cooby.

What kind of company is it? What will you be doing?

May 05 2006 08:44 AM

Thanks, MFS, I guess Woolrich will have to survive without me :)

I fought it off as long as I could, but there comes a time in every mother's life when the kids are grown and the bills are high and she just can't justify staying home and changing the sheets any more.

It's a doctor's office, my mom assures me that he is very nice.

Very cool cooby - best of luck!

Will you still be able to ride your bike to work?

cooby
May 05 2006 01:28 PM

no, :(
I'll have to drive. And buy gas.

Metirish, that 1983 thing is neat, I stopped working June 1, 1983 when I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter and I remember being pregnant to a lot of that stuff

Showed those wool-for-brains, didn't you?

cooby
May 07 2006 05:32 PM

Yep! They have to get up pretty early in the morning to put one over one me!

Had to laugh tonight at my niece's college graduation party. My new office will be about two blocks from my parents' house. My dad said I could come up for lunch anytime I felt like it. He said: "I hope you like Lebanon Baloney".

This is one lucky doctor.

cooby
May 08 2006 09:46 AM

Well thank you! :)

I had a visit with my own doctor this morning, and when I told her where I was going to start working next week, she kinda made a funny noise. I don't think I like that...

Benjamin Grimm
May 08 2006 09:57 AM

Can you try to spell out the noise she made? Maybe we can interpret it for you.

cooby
May 08 2006 10:00 AM

I don't think it was spellable, but it was kind of a cross between a gasp and a laugh. Way down in her throat-like.

Would've been funnier if you said "pull the wool over my eyes."

cooby
May 10 2006 04:58 PM

I knew there was a better way to say that!

My scrubs that I ordered came today! I am going to go try them on!

Yes! I know I sound like a 2 year old at Christmas!

I think that's called a chortle. I've heard that word, never looked it up, but this sounds like an example.

I had sad day and my husband is nice to me and when he got home he took me out to eat and we got good and drunk and then we went to Walmart.
I don't think they were too happy but we had a good time.

Anyway, he bought me a new top to wear to work with all these little Carribean musical instruments and I will wear it on days Pedro pitches.

I may not like my new job, but I will enjoy the clothes. I hope I'm allowed to wear orange scrubs

May 13 2006 05:25 AM

It will take more than a lucky shirt to make Lima decent.

cooby
May 13 2006 07:59 AM

I hope it's still lucky for Pedro. That's probably it, Lima heard us discussing it as a Pedro shirt and felt bad.

So, how was the first week?

cooby
May 23 2006 07:37 PM

So far okay. Keeping busy. Have some kinks to work out at home. Lots to learn.

Have a week off in June that would be perfect for unfinished business.

Nov 03 2006 09:53 AM

Today is again my last day at Woolrich.

Tuesday I'll be starting a new job as an office assistant at the company my husband works at. I was hoping to work for him (!) but instead I'll be working for a friend of his, so that'll be fun.

I can't wait.

MFS62
Nov 03 2006 10:01 AM

Is it a small (where everybody knows what everyone else is doing) or large office?
Sometimes its better you don't work directly with a spouse, so you don't have to bring work-related problems home with you.

Good luck.
But, is it ok if I still buy Woolrich stuff?

Later

Benjamin Grimm
Nov 03 2006 10:07 AM

No, from now on you have to do all your shopping at Woolworth's.

(Actually, you can still shop at Woolworth's! http://www.woolworths.co.uk/)

Somebody's also cyber-squatting on a Gimbel's web site: http://www.gimbels.com/

Nobody seems to own www.korvettes.com

Here's another defunct store that has a website: http://www.crazyeddie.com/

cooby
Nov 03 2006 10:10 AM

Of course you may still buy from Woolrich! I insist!

Your purchase helps to keep our Little League fields in good shape (how's that for a tug at the old baseball heart strings)

MFS62
Nov 03 2006 10:16 AM

Yancy, I wouldn't give 5 cents or 10 cents for that Woolworth's suggestion.

And there was no Kor-value in the answer about Korvette's. (remember their store brand?)

Does Macy's tell Gimbels?

And your Krazy Eddie reference was just In-SANE!

Shit, that made me feel old.

And Cooby, that wasn't fair. You know that would tug on my heart strings. After all, I AM an old softie at heart.

In order to assure the highest levels of quality work and productivity from employees, it will be our policy to keep all employees well trained through our program of Special High Intensity Training (S.H.I.T .) We are trying to give our employees more S.H.I.T. than anyone else. If you feel that you do not receive your share of S.H.I.T. on the course, please see your supervisor. You will be immediately placed at the top of the S.H.I.T. list and our supervisors are especially skilled at seeing you get all the S.H.I.T. you can handle. Employees who don"t take their S.H.I.T. will be placed in Departmental Employee Evaluation Programs ( D.E.E.P. S.H.I.T.). Those who fail to take D.E.E.P. S.H.I.T. seriously will have to go to Employee Attitude Training (E.A.T. S.H.I.T.) Since our supervisors took S.H.I.T. before they were promoted, they don"t have to take S.H.I.T. anymore, and are all full of S.H.I.T. already. If you are full of S.H.I.T. you may be interested in a job teaching others. We can add your name to our Basic Understanding List of Leaders ( B.U.L.L. S.H.I.T.) For employees who are intending to pursue a career in management and consulting, we will refer you to the department of Managerial Operational Research Education. (M.O.R.E . S.H.I.T.) This Course emphasizes how to manage (M.O.R.E. S.H.I.T.) If you have further questions, please direct them to our Head of Teaching Special High Intensity Training (H.O.T. S.H.I.T.) Thank You, Boss in General, Special High Intensity Training (B.I.G. S.H.I.T.) P.S. Now send this S.H.I.T. to people who need S.H.I.T. in their life, just not the same person who sent you this S.H.I.T. as they have already had their fill of S.H.I.T.

I'm hoping that if it turns out to be the full time thing, that KC figures out a way to make the Cranepool Forum look more like an Excel spreadsheet, so I can take a peek in every so often without looking obvious.

Office - Performance Evaluations

For everyone who has ever had an evaluation - just remember, it could have been worse. These are actual quotes taken from Federal Government employee performance evaluations.

1. "Since my last report, this employee has reached rock-bottom and has started to dig."

2. "I would not allow this employee to breed.

3. "This employee is really not so much of a has-been, but more of a definite won't be."

4. "Works well when under constant supervision and cornered like a rat in a trap."

5. "When she opens her mouth, it seems that it is only to change feet."

6. "This young lady has delusions of adequacy."

7. "He sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them."

8. "This employee is depriving a village somewhere of an idiot."

9. "This employee should go far, and the sooner he starts, the better."

10. "Got a full 6-pack, but lacks the plastic thingy to hold it all together.."

11. "A gross ignoramus -- 144 times worse than an ordinary ignoramus."

12. "He doesn't have ulcers, but he's a carrier."

14. "I would like to go hunting with him sometime."

15. "He's been working with glue too much."

16. "He would argue with a signpost."

17. "He brings a lot of joy whenever he leaves the room."

18. "When his IQ reaches 50, he should sell."

19. "If you see two people talking and one looks bored, he's the other one."

20. "A photographic memory but with the lens cover glued on."

21. "A prime candidate for natural de-selection."

22. "Donated his brain to science before he was done using it."

23. "Gates are down, the lights are flashing, but the train isn't coming."

24. "He's got two brains cells, one is lost and the other is out looking for it."

25. "If he were any more stupid, he'd have to be watered twice a week."

26. "If you give him a penny for his thoughts, you'd get change."

27. "If you stand close enough to him, you can hear the ocean."

28. "It's hard to believe he beat out 1,000,000 other sperm."

29. "One neuron short of a synapse."

30. "Some drink from the fountain of knowledge; he only gargled."

31. "Takes him 2 hours to watch '60-minutes'."

32. "The wheel is turning, but the hamster is dead"

33. "Got into the gene pool when the Lifeguard wasn't looking"
