The Mets started this afternoons game at Turner Field with hopes of a sweep of the Braves. They left with a series win and thoughts of what could have been. Today the Mets had too little pitching and the Braves had too much Jeff Francoeur. Steve Trachsel did his Brian Bannister impersonation. Only Trachsel wasn't able to wriggle out of the repeated messes he got himself into and was gone after only 3.2 innings. That made for a very long day for both the bullpen and Met fans.

Collectively, the Mets outfield had a fine day. Endy Chavez started in right field for Xavier Nady and had a nice game. He hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and had a single as well. Cliff Floyd had a pair of singles and one or two hard hit outs. Carlos Beltran hit a 2 run home run in the third inning and played a nice game in center field.

Jose Reyes was the only infielder to distinguish himself with a solid game. He had a single and 3 walks. There have been concerns about Jose's low OBP thus far, but it is hard to fault his effort in the lead off spot today.

The loss today was disappointing, but a series victory over the Braves in Turner Field can never be too disheartening. Heading back to Shea to start a seven game home stand, the Mets have to feel pretty good about their 6-4 road trip that included series wins over both San Francisco and Atlanta.

In celebration of a series win at Turner Field, the POTG shall receive a six pack of Dogfish Head Chicory Stout to share with the other nominees. The pitcher's can get their own beer after today's effort.
