Post Correa Bright Side

Someone post some positive messaging here. I'm more disappointed by this failure to sign him than I ever could have been had the rumor never surfaced to begin with.

I'm hoping that this means we get an extended look at Brett Baty. I feel like letting him and Francisco Alvarez get lots of time at the 8-9 spots in the batting order help them to develop into home grown stars, you know, like every fucking Braves prospect that's stepped on the field in the last ten years.

That's pretty much my position.

Baty, Baty, he's our man!

If he can't do it, Escobar can!

Escobar, Escobar, he's our man!

If he can't do it, Vientos can!

Vientos, Vientos, he's our man!

If he can't do it, Mauricio can!

Mauricio, Mauricio, he's our man!

If he can't do it, Guillorme can!

I was excited when Baty got called up , and I remain so. I think he's going to have a super season.

Re: Post Correa Bright Side

we're a 101-win team from last season that:

a) didn't have anybody wildly outperform their projection/expectations

c) barely got 200 innings from their pair of aces atop the rotation

b) didn't lose any key pieces that weren't replaced like-for-like (except maybe seth lugo...?)

c) has the top prospect in the game due to come up, with more in the pipeline

d) projects to the same WAR total for the coming season

I mean, shit can always turn south, but fuck. it's not like we were a .500 team just hoping to scrape into the playoffs without him. we're in a dead heat for best team in the league. losing correa just knocks us back from being a pre-season juggernaut. and gosh, I'm just going to have to be ok with that.

There's now lotsa' money (and time) to concentrate on improving the club this year and for the Ohtani sweepstakes next year.

Re: Post Correa Bright Side

there's also more money available in the out years to extend the right side of our infield, which should really be the first next thing they do.

Re: Post Correa Bright Side

I like that they didn't simply plow ahead with a 12 year deal either because they figured that, hell, we've come this far (Kazmir for Zambrano anyone?) or from a fear

of looking weak by backing out after getting additional info that perhaps it would be a bad risk.

And maybe it also shows that Cohen will listen to his front office folks if and when they tell him that a deal he made on a whim needs to be reigned in.

Re: Post Correa Bright Side

I expect a pretty good year from Correa. I really do. But I'd expect the same plate appearances given to Baty+Vientos+Escobar+Guillorme to put us somewhere in the neighborhood of Correa's output. Maybe that's overly ambitious but I like quality out of quantity.

By year two and three, forget about it.

The Mets didn't let their emotions cause them to make a risky long term agreement against the the assessment of their medical personnel.

They now have more money for the Ohtani or Machado sweepstakes.
