New York Mets Sign Top International Catching Prospect The Mets added to their organization's talented group of catchers by signing top international prospect Daiverson Gutierrez. Gutierrez is a 17-year-old native of Venezuela. According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, the young prospect received a $1.9 million signing bonus.

G.uys like this are so so far away from the majors, there's no telling what they'll do or even what position they'll play. Hope for the best.

Yup. You draft/sign amateur players for their perceived talent and future projections, not for how their position fits into the current roster.
